I've always been a big picture-taker. I had a baby two months ago, and my picture-taking has increased significantly.
The iPhone 7's camera isn't cutting it for me anymore. I tried to be frugal and kept this phone for as long as possible. I'm willing to splurge for a newer iPhone, and am weighing options.
About two years ago I was ready to finally upgrade my old iPhone and the latest at the time was the 15. I bought the 15 Pro expecting to use it for good photography, and couldn’t help but notice that the pictures seemed worse than on my girlfriend‘s 11 Pro. One day we took a picture side-by-side and sure enough, the 11 Pro blew the 15 Pro out of the water in clarity, sharpness, etc. So I downgraded to a normal 15 as I didn’t care about the camera that much anymore and that was that. Well, a few days ago we went into the Apple Store to upgrade her 11 Pro to a 16 Pro, hoping they fixed it. Not even close. I couldn’t stand it and I snapped two side-by-sides to show the staff. Please have a look at the pic. Left is obviously the 16 Pro, right our “outdated” 11 Pro. One of the staff members tried to convince me that it had to do with lens switching but I explained to him that at the same FOV there shouldn’t be such a loss in quality and we basically went back-and-forth at different zoom levels, and the 16 Pro simply could not keep up (it did of course have more zoom, but we’re talking about comparing apples to apples FOV-wise.)
I am just baffled and have been now for years. Apple, the golden child of imaging and digital graphics, lost the photography throne to Samsung and others long ago. (When we want really good photography we use our Galaxy S20 Note Ultra.) Can anybody explain this to me? I had the Apple staff go over certain settings with me, hoping maybe there was something that could improve things, and nothing worked, even forcing 48MP. How/why have they let this happen? How does their 5 year old model beat everything coming out today? WTF??!

I love hobby photography, and I travel and take photos often. My camera is getting old, and I decided to switch to only iPhone photography for now.
I was thinking about getting the iPhone 11 Pro, but the main feature I would want is the 3rd lens. Is the 3rd lens really worth the $300 upgrade for a photo-lover?
I’ve seen multiple posts that they can’t stand the pictures that the 14 Pro takes because it’s overly processed and that even the 11 Pro is leagues better in terms of picture quality. Is this actually the case? What do you guys think?
I know it was like that last year with the main shooter on the XS which was also used in the XR but this year the difference in price is even bigger, and it was the 11 Pro which was marketed more for its video capturing capabilities, so I wonder if the regular iPhone 11 does also have the same sensor like the 11 Pro as well as the same image processing?
I watched the event and it was written the lens was the exact same but they did not really mention anything about the sensor being the same as far as I remember, or is that the case 'by default'?
Same main & Ultra wide camera
I went over the specs today and the main difference is that the 11 doesn’t have the “telephoto” lens which makes sense. They’ve kept this feature for the more expensive iPhone since the 7 Plus.
It’s still going to be a significant upgrade from the XR.
I bought an iPhone 12 second hand and sadly I was sold a faulty phone so needing to get a replacement. The iPhone 11 or 11 pro are the only two within my budget but I’m not sure which one to get. . I mainly use my phone for social media, some pictures and a little gaming. I need it to last around 18 months
Thanks!
I’m not hating on these phones but I’m trying to figure out if I downgrade to the 11 I won’t be missing much. So basically what I’ve seen these guys take the same crispy photos but the 11 can’t zoom in optically. On top of that the Pro benefits are OLED screen and a slightly longer battery. Is this all that I would be missing out on?
Which one would be better (provided they are at SAME PRICE ) ? Just for Light usage and as a secondary phone
Hello guys, I have the iPhone 11 and I really love it, but I’m wondering if getting the pro version is worth it ?? I mean the normal one not the max. Is there a huge difference between theirs screens??? Help plz
Upgraded on the first week of release from 11 pro to 16. Some observations.
-
it feels quite bigger, I mean it is but did not expect to be this noticeable
-
I find action button to be useful (use it for flash)
-
camera control is okay, it’s just another action button for me, and sometimes handy if I wanna put tone down for more contrast
-
camera notably better. I use mirrorless camera anyways if I wanna properly take photos but the main sensor is capable of spitting out some real nice images with nice shallow depth of field in relatively close up subject
-
performance is fine, more responsive when typing and switching apps compared to 11 pro
-
Dynamic Island is cool but I don’t use it as often as I thought I would’ve
-
brightness going down to 1 nit is kinda clutch at night
-
love MagSafe for wallet
-
usb-c is nice but I only charge at night so I don’t notice it as much
It has become apparent recently but you don’t need to upgrade yearly at this point. The changes are very incremental, but when you upgrade it from 3-5 generations ago you can really tell and appreciate the improvement!!!
Trying to decide which one to buy.
I just got one and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. The XS Max last year felt just a tad too big for my tastes. And the 11 Pro Max is thicker and heavier which would just make it even more uncomfortable for me.
The 11 Pro nailed it for sure. Excellent battery life, triple camera, and most importantly for me, OLED.
iPhone 11 Pro is no where near the sales of iPhone 11 and still lagging behind the 11 Pro Max. Which begs the question, why did you pick it? Same reasons as me? Or are they different?
Edit/update: It’s clear that the differences between the Pro and Pro Max are apparent to pretty much all of you. If you haven’t voiced your opinion on the post, what about against the 11? What about the Pro made you drop $300 extra? Given the incredible value price point on $700?
I've searched through a lot of threads, and I see the Logitech C920 recommended, which I bought. But one of the largest issues is that the camera out of the box is just bad, and it isn't possible to tweak the video settings because there's a bug that resets the settings every time OBS is opened. The only alternative to this that I found was using the Logitech software...which I don't want to use.
I switched to using DroidCam OBS using the camera of an iPhone 11 Pro, and I found the camera quality to be pretty good. But it's a hassle setting it up every time.
I was hoping if there were any face cam recommendations that do 1080p 60 FPS that has similar quality to the iPhone 11 Pro at 1080p 60 FPS that isn't Logitech (or any other brand that requires additional software to tune it's settings) up to $150.
Update: I did a bit more research, and I'm going for the OBSBOT Meet 2 over the Elgato Facecam MK.2 based on this video comparing them (https://youtu.be/R0Lsrv8oOOk?si=WmZhJiOYOyRhQek2&t=822)
I’m going to need to replace my iPhone 11 soonish and iPhone 16 seems like a common sense choice (I like to keep a phone for as long as possible so hopefully I keep my iPhone 16 until I replace it with the iPhone 21). My main areas of interest in general is battery life and camera. Now obviously I’ve seen the specs but would love to get some real world opinions on how much better the camera on the 16 actually is?
