I have an iPhone 12 64GB, and I'm never in the mood to get another iPhone—the experience I had was quite bad, but let's carry on.
I'm thinking of upgrading its storage to 256 GB aftermarket. I want to know if there will be any noticeable performance difference if I opt for this option.
I've heard many say that Apple uses high-end storage chips, and that a local vendor will use some Chinese-exported storage, which is why I'm confused about whether it will affect performance.

You need like a masters in electrical engineering and a shit ton of experience to do this shit and if they still do this then that vendor must be a professional scammer. This is like surgery. 1 mistake and the phone is basically a metal brick. Only do this if you hate yourself.

Look. Your probably better buying a brand new iPhone 12 instead I got a 12 Pro brand new with 256GB storage brand new for £600 in February 2025. It will probably work out cheaper too. A new 256GB iPhone 12 will cost around £300 if you look hard enough. Plus with a new phone too. You get a fresh 100% battery, iOS 14 on the Pro models if you want to get into jailbreaking (Can be updated to iOS 18) and not a single scratch

It's normal for system storage to be a little wacky after an update, especially if it was OTA, as it has to verify the multiple patches that it applies to the OS and then re-index any major changes that were made to the OS code. That being stated, there is a longstanding iOS bug that allows "storage" to keep growing and the process responsible for clearing out cached data fails for some reason, leaving the user with an ridiculously bloated system partition. I would wait for another 48 hours and just keep an eye on it. If "system" just keeps growing over that time period, you'll have to restore from iTunes. *IF* that it the case, I would personally recommend not restoring a backup.

Hi There Everyone, I am wondering whether I can Upgrade my iPhone Storage I mean is it possible to mod an iPhone or buy more storage and put it into the iPhone, I have gotten an iPhone 12 Recently and I am in a 36 month contract and it is only 64GB of storage and I need more storage so is it possible to get an upgrade I know that Apple does not offer that and most answers online is “buy a New iPhone” but I don’t want that and I have explained that I am in contract so what do I do , I like my iPhone I just need more storage. Not really. Closest option would be to use an iExpand lightning stick and move music or photos over. If you are anything like me go through your apps. There are usually half a dozen that you don’t actually need. Remove photos and back them up locally - no one is interested in the pictures from your holiday last year… Go through messengers like WhatsApp and delete "junk photos/gifs". Sort through music/videos
