They're just circles of glass held in with adhesive, so replacing them is basically a matter of picking the broken glass out, removing the adhesive and sticking down a new lens. Really, all you have to worry about is leaving glass chips inside, so clean it out well and don't get fingerprints on the camera lens itself, and of course be careful to not scratch the lens either. replacing the camera isn't quite as easy as expressed by many people on the internet. sure, you can pick the glass out of the rear camera lens bezel BUT, if you go the rout of not removing the screen and removing the camera first there are risks that you need to be aware of. If while removing the glass you get glass shard fragments in the focal motor, it can render the camera useless. the proper way of doing this is to remove the screen and then removing the camera and pushing the glass out of the back of the frame. this eliminates any risk of getting glass into the focal motor and getting glass shard fragments on the lens coating.

The glass & lens are different parts. The glass, at apple, is a rear system repair. They can’t just repair the one piece over the lens. If you don’t have AppleCare+, it’s usually $400-$500+ depending on the model of 13.

Just fyi, I know this is old, but these are very easy to fix on your own. You can buy the replacement glass covers on eBay & even amazon or pretty much any phone repair supply website. All you do is use a heat gun or blow dryer to heat it up so you can pull off the glass cover. Use alcohol to remove any old residue. Be careful not to mess w/ the actual lens. If the lens is super shattered & came off it shards, use a can of compressed air to make sure all the glass shards are removed bc you don’t want to touch that lens. Then you can add the new lens cover. If you buy a little kit it will come w/ a little adhesive ring. If it doesn’t come w/ the adhesive ring.. don’t replace it. & don’t buy that kit. But if you insist, you can use a silicone based glue w/ a needle nozzle. use a couple of tiny TINY dots of glue around the perimeter, that’s more than enough. DO NOT use too much to where it’s going to bleed out when you push the lens down. You will mess up the camera lens. Again, just get the kit that comes w/ the adhesive ring. It’s not worth doing hundreds of dollars of damage to your actual camera just bc you don’t wanna pay someone else to do it & don’t wanna buy the proper kit. All in all this will cost anywhere from $10-$40 depending on how bad the damage is. Better than $90-$150 to pay someone else if you don’t have AppleCare.

This morning at work my phone slipped out of my pocket and landed flat on the back (case on). When I picked it up the entire bottom camera lens was shattered to hell. Glass started falling off and thats the end result. The camera still works fine and theres no other issues, but my Verizon warranty literally ended a week ago and I read Apple charges a full replacement for issues like this. Should I just fix it myself or bring it to Apple/Microcenter?

Youd need a rear system replacement. With Applecare+ it would probably be some tens of dollars, most likely less than 100. If you dont have it than it could cost much much more. At our AASP it costs 600€+ for a rear system replacement. This is all according to Apple of course, you could very well have the lense repaired at a 3rd party shop.

Easy fix, You can do it or someone you trust with mobile repairs and it will be cheap, just simply peel out the broken glass, clean with isopropyl alcohol and get a replacement lens glass, some come with pre applied adhesive or research liquid adhesive for glass or something similar and apply a small amount around the perimeter and your done.

I faced the same incident, I cant claim from apple care as its not available in my country. Went to Apple and they advise me that I have to replace the whole backside of the phone at 2/4 of the price of a new unit or swap with a new one that cost 3/4 of the price of a new unit. I don’t know too much about iPhones. But what I do know that you will need to take it to Apple to get a new camera. The iPhones are paired with their parts, so the phone will not accept a new camera.
