I got an iPhone 13 2 days ago (upgrading from an xr), what are some cool tips and tricks? The crazier the tips, the better! )Yes i know the tips app exists but i don't like it, same generic tips that i think everyone knows. )

Im coming from using an android my whole life haha
I love little workflow improvements and “hidden” features/gestures. ((Like swiping down at the bottom for reachability))
And the jump in cameras is HUGE! Are there new interactions and features that I have to know?
I’ve been deep-diving into iOS lately and realized I’d been missing so many little gems. Some of these are buried so deep in Settings that even friends who consider themselves “power users” had no idea. Sharing my top 5:
Back Tap = Secret button on your iPhone Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap. I set double-tap to launch Notes instantly (for brain dumps) and triple-tap to toggle Do Not Disturb. It feels like having a hidden shortcut button.
Text Replacement = type faster without autocorrect stress Settings → General → Keyboard → Text Replacement. Example: type @@ → it expands to your full email address. I have add = my home address, ppn = my PayPal email. Saves me from typing the same things over and over.
Hidden level + measurement tool Open the Measure app → swipe to “Level.” Your iPhone is literally a digital spirit level. I used it last week to hang a picture frame perfectly straight.
Safari swipe = instant tab switching In Safari, just swipe left/right on the bottom bar to jump between open tabs. Way faster than reaching up for the tab view.
Custom vibration patterns for contacts Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone → Vibration → Create New Vibration. I made a unique tap pattern for my partner. Now I know it’s them calling without even looking.
None of these are new features but once you start using them, they change how smooth your iPhone feels.
I’m curious: what’s your favorite hidden iOS trick that you actually use day-to-day? I’d love to add more to my list.
I've just bought an iPhone mini in the new green colour. It should be with me by Sunday and I cannot wait to use it. Coming from OnePlus 6 and long range of Android phones, this will be my first device from iOs. Please share anything you feel it'll be important as an adopter to the an entirely new ecosystem.
So, absolutely lost here! Could you guys help me out with tips and must have apps? Mainly productivity, media consumption, note taking and study workflow, games... everything you would tell your younger self to use from the start!
Lov you guys! Tks a lot! Not only happy with the phone, but also to be part of this group!
**Just opened a new post with a compiled list of things I gathered from here and other posts in order to help newcomers and old ones too.
Just a few:
-
Set up back tap (and/or accessibility shortcut)
-
Swipe on the bottom bar to switch apps (and pages in safari)
-
Tap the bottom of the notch to go to the top of the page
-
Check background app refresh AND location services (disable them mostly for better battery life)
-
Familiarize yourself with Shortcuts as others mentioned
-
Customize control center
-
Utilize live text
-
Pressing and holding (haptic touch) things will bring up an additional menu for quick access
-
Enable system haptics (simply orgasmic)
-
Long press on the spacebar for text selection
-
Double tap links with two fingers to open them in the background (In Safari)
-
Swipe left with three fingers or shake your phone to undo an action
-
Triple tap and hold to bring up options for copy, cut, paste, undo, redo
-
Pinch three fingers to cut text and unpinch(?) to paste it
-
Don't close your apps (what I mean, don't go into app switcher and swipe up to close them), you can just leave them be
-
If you want to reorganize your screen, you can move multiple apps in one go: just wait till they start to jiggle, grab one app, move it a little bit, then tap on others you want to move as well
-
Use a password manager (my personal recommendation is bitwarden)
As for apps, first try the default apps and see if they suit your needs.
Edit:
Some more:
-
You can swipe on images to select more (from start to end) instead of tapping one by one
-
Same with emails: tap with 2 fingers and slide down (selects everything from start to end)
-
You can add one handed keyboard in settings -> keyboard -> one handed keyboard; and then you can swipe left or right on the emoji or globe icon to activate it
-
Swipe down in the settings to activate the search bar (speeds up finding stuff)
-
Enable macro control for camera (so you can toggle macro mode and its not automatic
-
Enable optimize batter charging: settings -> battery -> battery health (might be on my default)
-
Don’t worry about battery life, charge it whenever you need it
-
To find text quickly on a webpage: start typing what you want to find in the address bar and tap On this page (find …)
Some niche tips:
-
Disable private browsing: settings -> screen time -> contents & privacy restrictions -> content restrictions -> web content -> limit adult websites
-
Reduce brightness (even more than 0%) settings -> accessibility -> display&text size -> reduce white point
-
If you give your phone to someone you can lock them into 1 app and disable areas of the screen with guided access
-
If you add Hearing to control center you can listen to some background sounds like rain, ocean, etc.
I have provided the necessary paths to find the settings but you should be able to get there faster by using the search bar.

Hi guys just want to share my happiness. I got my first ever iphone. although its just the 13, Im happy that I afford this kind of device. So any tips and tricks for me? and what are the dos and donts?
I feel as I know everything there is to know about my iPhone, but I bet somebody, somewhere knows something I don't. Share your tricks here and educate everyone on r/iphone
Tapping comments and stories in Alien Blue with 2 fingers gives up votes, 3 fingers give downvotes.
This is a very basic tip but it saves me time. Tapping "123" then tapping the character you want then finally clicking back to the main keyboard can be a hassle.
Instead hold down "123", slide thumb to character you want to use then let go. The character will be inputted and your keyboard will be back to normal :)

your phone searches for cell towers every once in a while. If you got bad reception, it might be because your phone is clinging onto a more distant/worse cell tower. the left side swipe menu of the pdf can also be used to add new pages , delete pages .. scan pages on the go .. or add pages from different file using files application
Hi, upgraded from iphone X and Im already shocked with how light this iphone 13 feels. Do you have any tips on how to take care of this iphone that you wished you had done the first time you had it? Thanks
Don’t use it heavily while it’s charging would be my first tip. Be careful/conscientious about your camera bump as it’s substantially larger than the one on iPhone X
Charge only one time a day if you can and don’t use it below 20% and my battery went from 99% health to 95% very quick and reason being this so yeah charge around 80% use less so you have to charge less
I just upgraded from a XS Max to a 14 Pro Max. It's just been a few years since I actually paid attention to the new features and things I can do with my phone.
What are some of your favorites or some obvious ones a person should take advantage of? Doesn't have to be specific to the latest hardware or iOS version.
TLDR - Give me one tip for a total iPhone noob concerned they'll regret their new 13 pro!
(EDIT) Thanks for all the great info everyone, killed an hour reading over breakfast and lots to consider. Definitely reassured and excited to get going with it.
I have been long term anti-Apple with deeply rooted animosity going back 30 odd years and based on very little except a couple of early bad experiences with and Macintosh's and Quicktime.
But after many Android devices from early HTC to Sony, to Xiaomi, to Samsung to Pixel, I have become increasingly disenchanted with that experience from general incoherence, to meh hardware, to having to wait months for updates as all the vendors prioritise differently.
With it "seeming" that Apple may be more privacy focussed these days and perhaps a little less insidious than google (naïve I know), having what looks like great hardware, and acknowledging my bigotry as a character flaw I need to get over, I have opened my mind, taken the plunge and ordered an iPhone 13 pro for delivery in a couple of weeks.
It's been great to read all the android switcher reviews on here and they've gone a long way to helping my decision but I'd appreciate some tips to get me started on the right foot. I'll be staying gsuite and have google home devices to control, spotify probably my most used app. Browse a bit, check the news, take quite a few photos (have a "proper" camera I'd like to get out less) and have a WearOS watch.
Nothing is too trivial, apps to install/uninstall, apps to avoid, tweaks and tricks, accessory pointers, cases, chargers, anything at all.
Thank you!
hey i just got a brand new iPhone 13 and i wanna now if you know some tips that could make my experience even better.
