So I was seeing this comparison between Ihpone 11, 12, 13 and 14 pro camera bumps.
(17) The difference in camera bump between a 11, 12, 13 and 14 Pro Max : iphone (reddit.com)
It's incredible how big the camera bump is in the 14 pro, but then it got me thinking...this is on purpose, and it's not necessary to have such a large camera bump.
The sensors on the iphone 12, and 13 are literally the same. And at least 1 of the sensors of the 13 and 14 are the same, if not 2 of them. So there is no reason to make them bigger.
Other phones, such as the Samsug Galaxy S23, have jsut as good cameras as the Iphone and their camera bumps aren't as big. Some of them have even bigger sensors or periscopic cameras as well.
So I believe what's happening is actually...marketing.
They increase the camera bump on the pro models and make them more prominent so people think they have better cameras. They see a phone with a MASSIVE camera, and thus they think it's must be incredible. And of course, it is a great camera but the s23 and Pixel cameras are just as good but with a much smaller bump.
So yeah, I believe this is a concious choice so that people see a big ass camera and think it must be the best thing ever. And then they use the rest of the space to put other internal things.
What do you think?

Let me preface this post by saying I love the iPhone. I've had almost every iPhone made.
Iphone 2G (1st gen)
Iphone 3G
Iphone 3GS
Iphone 4
Iphone 4s
Iphone 6
Iphone 6s
Iphone 8
Iphone XS
Iphone 12 Pro
and now the 14 Pro.....
I received my phone today along with my leather case. I guess I'm in a bit of shock right now over the camera bump. I've never held a 13 Pro so maybe because it's such a jump from the 12 Pro to the 14 Pro?
I think Apple has gone too far! On my 12 Pro the leather case covered most of the bump and flattened out the back. Not so on the 14 Pro It is proud of the leather case still by over 3mm!!!! I can't believe reviewers aren't talking about this.
And the "dynamic island" just seems odd. I'd rather have the notch to be honest. The very obvious black hole in the screen now is made more obvious by the bright screen all around it. Your eye is immediately drawn to the "dynamic island" and not in a good way. Like when you see dead pixels on a display and can't unsee them.
Almost tempted to return this phone for the 1st time ever. Maybe stick with my 12 Pro longer or try a 13 Pro?
