Hi! I got an iPhone 14 pro a few days ago. It came with a USB-C > lightning cable but obviously no plug. All of my previous iPhones have come with a USB-A > lightning cable, so all of my plugs have a USB-A port. So far, I’ve been charging my 14 pro with my old plugs and cables. I’m using an Apple 10W plug (which came with my iPad mini 2).

My question is, does this matter? I’ve only had to charge the phone twice so far and it seemed to charge pretty quickly. Should I spend £40 on a new plug with a USB-C port so I can use the new cable that came with this phone, or is it ok (battery health-wise) to keep using the old hardware? Is it just a matter of speed, or is this set-up going to be bad for my phone?

Hey everyone, I recently purchased a refurbished iPhone 14 after years and years of owning an iPhone 6 (don’t ask). Battery health is 97%. I really need help figuring out with charger I should buy, like which wattage, which wire, usb-A or C etc. I really have no understanding of Watts and all that stuff so would appreciate if anyone can give me a run down. I was given a USB-A wire with a made for iPhone stamp on it with the phone. I’ve seen some Reddit posts that say using a 5W wall charger would be good for long term battery health and that even though usb-C is faster, long term battery health wise usb-A would be better??

Would really appreciate any help. As you can tell I’ll probably be using this phone for the next decade so need it to last.

Context: My understanding is that there are many power outputs for usb chargers, many of which will charge the 14 Pro Max. For example, 5v 1A (old triangular apple charger), 5v 2A, 5v 2.4A (bulky wall plug for older iPads), 9v 2.2A (apple 20w usb-c wall plug). The list goes on. I also know that plugs with higher outputs such as the 30w have variable outputs to suit what the device will draw.

I have been using my old triangular plug to charge my iPhone 14 Pro Max. I wake up some mornings and it is only on 95-98%. Whilst this could be attributed to a poor sleep routine since getting the phone which is affecting the optimised charging, I’d like to use a higher powered charger to hopefully resolve this.

I have also read that fast charging (let’s assume fastest possible charging) can heat the battery up, and charging warmer batteries is slightly less healthy than ambient temperatures.

My question therefore is this: what would be an optimum charger power rating that will sufficiently charge the phone in reasonable time, but not be constantly fast charging the battery? Is there a good middle ground? Help appreciated!
