My understanding is 14 Pro Max 📲📱has one of Apples largest screen. Do you all like the clarity of it? These smaller ones are hurting my eyes.
I was wondering, what is the display resolution of the iPhone Pros?
The specs say, "2556x1179-pixel resolution at 460 ppi". Does that mean it's 2.5k? 1080p? 4k? And are those resolutions sharp enough?
I always used the smaller version since iPhone XS, but this year my wife made me buy a bigger one (14 Pro max). First, it seemed almost ridiculous: it was stupidly big, apps seemed not utilizing the whole screen real estate (even with its 1st party app), almost impossible to use it in one hand. And strangely, I found myself spending more time on this phone mostly procrastinating. I wanted to get myself slightly away from my phone, and I decided to buy the regular 14 Pro this week, and this is my observation so far:
The weight feels almost the same: I cannot believe this, but it is. I think it's because of the weight distribution, even feeling that Pro max is slightly lighter than the Pro.
The bigger screen size actually matters: First, I thought the screen on the Pro Max is just overly BIG, like you're using a 43-inch monitor for a daily use. But after 6 months of use, I'm having more enjoyable viewing experience than the Pro version (maybe I'm just getting older). Now it feels like it's a fair tradeoff to have this screen experience over a bulky size. Plus, as I have bad eyesights in the morning after having a vision correction surgery, Pro max serves better in that sense.
Screen layout is different between the two: I thought the 14 Pro max is just a scaled-up version of the Pro, but the user experience is quite different. As Pro max has more wider screen (not the ratio), it feels more like a iPad/desktop layout compared to the Pro versions. This makes me more comfortable while browsing websites, having similar experiences with my other gadgets.
Typing experience is much different: I never thought it would, but the typing experience is so much better on the 14 Pro max, although it almost forces you to use it two/handed. Way less typos, way faster typing.
The (physical) size difference is not as I expected: Viewing experience can be different because of the 0.7 inch screen-size difference, and it feels like Pro max is way more bigger than the Pro, but in reality, it is not. My hands act almost identically when using the phones. The Pro version does the hand gymnastics a little bit less than the Pro max.
Battery life is insane in iPhone 14 Pro Max: I never used 13 Pro max, but the 14 Pro max's battery life seems endless. For me, that's a good thing and also a bad thing, because this made me use the phone A LOT as I no longer have battery anxiety (4-5 hours daily screen-on time).
Still, the pocketability is an issue: I cannot put my phone inside my pocket while driving, always have to take it out before getting inside the car.
Aesthetically, the Pro version is better: In my perspective, iPhone looks better when it's small. iPhone Minis look the best (maybe that's because I miss the iPhone 5 days). 14 Pro max looks like any other android devices: looks like a brick rather than a phone when it's on the table.
I will continue the test drive, but in the end, I think I'll just return the Pro and keep using the Pro max. It's not a perfect phone, but it serves my life pattern better.
To be honest, I feel that it's better to have a regular iPhone than the Pro (the 'Pro' version specifically): it's way more lighter (I value this the most), battery life is almost the same, viewing experience is almost the same expect Promotion, and it's 200$ more cheaper. How is your experience so far with the 14 series? Great to see your thoughts on this.
I tried out my mom's 16 Pro Max today. The display has the same maximum brightness and refresh rate. Just 0.2 inches bigger. The speed and overall snappiness in day-to-day app launching and browsing feels the exact same. I couldn't tell the difference with the cameras, except for the 25x digital zoom on the 16. Both with cases on felt like the same weight. Yeah, the battery is better on the 16, but the 14 Pro Max already lasts 2 days of moderate usage for me, so I don't see it as a huge upgrade. Apple Intelligence is also nice, but I have no problems with the way I use my phone currently since it is so fluid and quick. 60% of Europe's population cannot even be able to use these new features. I gave the 14 Pro Max to my mom and asked if she could notice the difference, and not to my surprise, she said it felt like the same phone. USB-C is better than lightning by a long shot, but it doesn't hurt to pack another cable or dongle in your bag while traveling. With the lightning cable, I'm still able to transfer hundreds of videos and photos to my PC at acceptable speeds. If you are thinking of buying the 16 Pro Max over the 14 Pro Max, just buy a new case, change the wallpaper, factory reset your phone, get a new battery, and add about 1000 dollars to your savings. The 16 Pro Max is only worth the upgrade if you are only coming from the 12 Pro Max or older.
