My husband and I just upgraded to 16s and we both had 11s before. When I got the new phones the person at the store said I need to use USB-C to USB-C chargers and that a regular USB to USB-C wouldn’t work. We already have a bunch of usb to usb-c chargers at home because of other devices we have and I’m scared to try to use one to charge my phone because of what the man at the store said (don’t want to ruin a brand new phone). I got an iPhone 16 from 13 last week and am so confused how to charge it.
The guy in the store told me to buy the plug because the cord only fit in it. The cable is too short to reach my bed side table. I tried using the cords that charge my keyboard and mouse to my Mac but they didn’t fit.
So which cable one do I buy for it?
I also bought an anker car lighter charger but I don’t know what cable to buy for it because the two slots are different sizes.
Finally, I have USB ports all over my office and kitchen and so can I use any of them to charge the 16?

You can buy usb to usbc cords on Amazon. You can also buy little pieces to convert your usbc to a usb so you can plug it into the traditional usb ports. These are the chargers I’ve purchased that work with my 16 and I’m still able to plug them into usb ports. I plan to finally upgrade my 6-year-old iPhone 8 to iPhone 16 Pro Max. Back in the day, the charger was included in the box, but now you need to buy it separately (which is not a problem, don`t get me wrong)
I just got confused when I started to look for the charger for my new iPhone... Do I need the 20W or 30W, if I plan to charge my phone with the USB-C cable? Also what kind of cable do I need, cause the 1m cable included in the box would not be long enough for me, I need at least 2m to feel comfortable.

Just be sure to buy a good quality USB-C cable and charger, not a dollar store variety Anker, Baseus, Belkin, Spigen, and Ugreen all make good quality USB-C PD chargers, which one depends on how many USB ports you want, how small you want, how thin you want and if you want to charge other devices simultaneously (iPad, Apple Watch, Airpods, Phone, MacBook, etc.). Apparently the new IPhone has 40w charging , but it's not officially listed, so can't fully confirm this until it's released. If I was going to buy a charger now for it, I'd buy a 45w charger, probably an Anker charger on amazon.

You can use either adapter. Buy the 20W if you’re plugging your iPhone 16 in with a USB-C cable. Buy the 30W if you’re using a compatible MagSafe charger. The MagSafe is less efficient, hence needing a larger wattage outlet to fast charge your iPhone (attain 50% charge in about 30 minutes). Don’t worry about using even higher wattage chargers (e.g. 60W or even 100W outlets). Your phone’s charge controller will only draw what it can use, so there is no risk of damaging your phone. The benefit of getting a larger charger for some is that they can use the same brick to charge larger devices like iPads or MacBooks.
