r/iphone on Reddit: iPhone 16 Pro camera settings
September 21, 2024 -
Just bought the 16pro. What should I change in the settings to make pictures and video better quality. Coming from iPhone 11 and I don’t notice that big of a difference, which doesn’t seem right. Pictures just seem a bit pixilated when I zoom in on them. Thanks!

Hi man, don't listen people saying that you made a mistake on buying the 16. It's a great product and it came with nice changes especially from the 16. If you want to improve the quality of the pictures, you must go to the camera settings and switch to "ProRaw". This will allow your phone to use the full potential of the 48MP. Also, it's better to chose High efficiency. You got a great product, please enjoy it ! Cheers

I’ve worked out this camera system. 3 physical cameras. 48mpx wide 13mm (0.5x-ish) 48mpx standard 24mm (1x) 12mpx telephoto 120mm (5x zoom) Zooms between 1x and 5x they call ‘fusion camera’. Basically they use the telephoto and the standard camera together and use ‘deep fusion’ which is some random clever shit where they overlay all the cameras taking the same picture to get a good picture output. 2x zoom from my understanding is just the standard camera cropped in from 48mpx to 12mpx. In low light they dont let you shoot higher than 12mpx for good reason. And use ‘quad pixels’ to allow for more light. It’s clever I must say, and gives a host of options, but all the limitations and use cases are very confusing! I think if you understand some of this you’ll realise just shooting at 0.5 or 1x is best! In terms of video, 4k is 8mpx an equivalent still. So any of the cameras will do. Apart from the action mode where you should be aware it crops in slightly on the image, so that the software stabilisation works in addition to the optical stabilisation to get super smooth video. And shoot at the lowest compression you can of course. Turn off high efficiency on everything. Shoot in ProRes and ProRaw. But only if you have the storage or external drive. Otherwise there’s no point. But in my opinion, even in these raw modes you get all these processing artefacts which would be negligible with the compression artefacts. That is the compression makes them no less worse.

So, I just upgraded from an iPhone 11 to the iPhone 16 and was really excited to try out the new camera, especially since it’s the first base model with 16 pm features like macro photography. But honestly, I’m not super impressed with the camera so far, and I think some settings might be off. Could you let me know the best camera settings for the iPhone 16 and what I should try?

I read this on an article and made my photos way better. What I did was: Settings -> Camera -> Preserve Settings -> Photographic Style ON Open Camera app, select Photographic Styles on Standard, adjust Tone to -50. Looks WAY better. Actually respects shadows now and things pop more. Article here: https://www.macstories.net/stories/iphone-16-plus-fun/

The Right Settings for The Best Photos on the iPhone 16 Pro — Adrien Sanguinetti
December 12, 2024 - I disabled Clean preview, launch camera with one click and the app to open is Camera. I don’t use photographic styles as I am shooting RAW and edit the photos in Lightroom/LightroomCC · Next is the formats, I leave it in High Efficiency although it doesn’t impact me because I am shooting RAW, Photo mode at 24MP. I turn ON ProRAW & Resolution Control, I set my Pro Default to ProRAW Max for best image quality but then select JPEG-XL Lossy to keep the file size rather small.

iPhone 16 Pro - Best Camera Settings (Photography & Video) — Roman Fox
3 weeks ago - Camera Control – The iPhone 16 Pro now comes with a new camera control button, and while the promise was life changing, in reality, limiting its capability will actually help you get more out of it. I personally use it for taking photos, locking exposure, and adjusting the global exposure value. The latter can be customised under the Controls section. ProRAW – This is the most critical setting. Make sure this is switched on to get the best quality image for editing.
