Unfortunately they are not compatible. They are not the same size, they have a different camera layout and there would be nowhere on the iPhone 7 board to connect the Qi charging pad. You can however buy an external Qi receiver that sticks to the back of your phone and connects to the lightning port. It even works under a case as long as its not metal. Ther is a way to add wireless charging to an iPhone 7 but switching all the internals into one of the cases on dhgate.com. If you search for wireless charging housing iPhone 7 you will find them. A YouTube did a video about them recently on the iPhone 6s. Strange parts also sells their own housing but it does not have the apple logo on the back.

The iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X are the only iPhones that support wireless charging. I see what you mean though, that’s a bit of a concern with the card that’s behind the case. What are the supported amperage on the devices? Might want to be careful that it’s not over what the iPhone 7 can support. More on reddit.com
