I’d say yes. Get the official battery replaced by an Apple Store. I did just that about 3 weeks ago, when I was abroad in Europe on holiday. Still have that 100 % of pure official battery health now Answer from Retro_Rok89 on reddit.com

Battery health at 85%. Is that good enough for another year? Or should I upgrade now? : r/iPhone12Pro
October 14, 2023 - Will be compatible with any future iPhone you get as well ... Get another battery. ... I was in the exact same situation. I had a 12 Pro since launch day in 2020 and it still worked great besides the battery life had really declined. My battery health was at 85%. I didn’t mind charging it overnight and then once halfway through my day as I have a desk job but when I’m not working and doing things where I can’t be connected to an outlet, I would have to worry about the battery lasting.

r/iPhone12Mini on Reddit: 85 percent battery life capacity?
July 12, 2023 -

I've had my iPhone 12 mini for about 2 years almost. The battery shows 85 percent capactiy and I imagine the battery isn't that large given the phone size. I am also noticing battery life deplete faster.

Is it worth getting the battery replaced for $89 dollars that apple charges? Or shouold I just upgrade to the new iPhone 15. (it does suck apple will not be offering a mini model anymore).

r/iPhone13ProMax on Reddit: Got a used iPhone 13 PM with 86% battery health, should I pay for a new battery on Apple? Will I notice a difference?
December 19, 2023 -

I bought the phone used on eBay, I was wondering, is worth it to change the battery on Apple for a new one? The battery holds as a lock, I disconnect the phone at 8 am, I charge it again at 2:00 PM to 3:00PM and holds all day long almost to bed time (heavy use, even using 5G), but my friend told me that this phone’s battery is pretty good when is new. Do you guys think that I will notice a difference if I pay for a full new battery or should I stay with this battery and do not get a new one?

Edit 1: Hey, thanks for all your responses!!, I’m going to change the battery this week, for all the people that are saying that Apple only replace the battery if it is 80% or lower that’s not true, the battery replacement is $89 plus taxes, I’ll keep you guys updated when I get my new battery and of course in the next couple of weeks I’ll edit again to let know if was worth it the change.

After 2 years and at 87% battery health, it's still going strong.
February 22, 2023 - I’ll tell you guys everyone here, after more than a year and 1/2 x 13 Pro Max 🪫 is at 94% battery! I’m a moderate user. No gaming, I have a Sudoku game on my 📱. That’s about it. Love my 📱. I will most likely operate to the 16 pros next year when 🍎launches them. But right now, my 13 Pro Max is doing just fine… ... I have iphone 11. Mine dipped below 90 after less than 2 years but it's still 85 after 4 years.

Answer (1 of 12): A2A. As long as your iPhone is performing optimally there’s no need. However usually when it gets to around 80% or below I’d think about getting a replacement.

r/iphone on Reddit: 12 Pro Max battery capacity already at 85%
January 17, 2020 -

Hopefully this is the most appropriate place to ask for assistance regarding battery. As the title says, I got a launch day iPhone 12 Pro Max and was about to pass it down when I noticed battery health at 85% despite being less than a year of usage. Unboxed Nov 14, 2020 and have been using it daily with a mix of cable & wireless charging.

Had a couple instances when multitasking the phone would get a bit warm and get ridiculously slow which rebooting didn’t fix, so now thinking about it could it be battery related?

According to coconut battery, cycle count is only about 270. To have gone down by 15% in that amount of cycles is a bit fast isn’t it?

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use

  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application

  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.

  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.

  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life

  4. Consider restoring your device.

  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)

  • Remove apps from background app refresh

  • Ensure auto lock is on

  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness

  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display

  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures

  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case

  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage
