I hope that Apple will get sued or be confronted by legislation in the US and at least in the EU for this anti-consumers and anti-competitive behavior. I can totally understand that they take extra precaution to prevent replacement of security/authentication parts like they did for the TouchID/FaceID/T-chips. Everything else is a big NO and should be freely in the hands of anyone who has the parts and/or the schematics. The fact that they started introducing it in the iPhone 12 when nothing really justifies it says it all. Fuck Apple on this one. More on reddit.com

ChatGPT is wrong. With AppleCare+ at the Genius Bar, it will be $29 to fix, and it replaces the entire back glass of the iPhone. There’s a decent chance the camera inside is fine, and if it’s not, the camera module will also get replaced during the repair. You will receive the same iPhone back but with a new back glass and possibly new camera module. Please make sure you have a backup and know your Apple Account credentials— you’ll be asked to turn off Find My before the repair begins. More on reddit.com

Went for one bike ride using the Mous case + bike mount. Although their website shows mountain bikers launching themselves off mountain tops, apparently their proprietary locking system can’t hold a phone on if you go over a 1” bump. (Contacted them and they don’t care).
Anyway, picked the glass out and was going to replace it but the photos are still blurry out of that lens. It looks like the lens itself is scratched.
Made an appt through Apple and went to BestBuy today. They don’t have the part, and informed me that the cost for repair is $500, as the whole back of the phone needs to be replaced.
I contacted a third party place who said they can replace the camera, but it will disable features, as Apple has designed it so that only they can work on their devices.
Anyone know what features it would disable? I don’t use many of the cameras features, I would just like to be able to take a clear photo.

cost to repair an iphone back camera should be 329, not 500. do NOT do a third party camera replacement. it will not be verified and the likelihood of you getting the same iphone camera is basically 0.
