r/iphone on Reddit: iPhone camera sensor size comparison
February 20, 2025 -
I stumbled across this chart comparing iPhone camera sensor sizes and it’s interesting to see how far we’ve come but also how backwards Apple has gone with the 16e.
A sensor the size of the iPhone XS with 4 times more but smaller pixels just seems wrong. And I know it’s a “budget” iPhone and that it does pixel binning, but it makes me wonder how Apple is relying way more on software rather than hardware here.
Anyone else thinking the same thing?

I hate how the iPhone may have some good camera specs but Apple’s tendency to heavily process images, especially human skin tone makes them look terrible. I have a Vivo X200 Pro that I use alongside my 16 and the iPhone’s camera output isn’t even on the same level as that thing.

Using iPhone as a camera tracker sensor on camera rig
It has a very thin chance of working, almost none. A few factors are; Iphone has in-camera stabilization, which you can't turn it off, so sensor won't be in the center, you can turn it off in your a7s III, but not in your iphone. Sensor size of both the cameras are hugely different. Which means 25 mm lens on your 7S will look different than iphone. It's not like you mount your Iphone on top of your S7 to extract the real-time tracking data from Camtrack or other apps. Those apps data only works with the iphone's camera footage.
