This is an issue my dad has been happening recently with his iPhone 12 Pro. He takes his phone out of his pocket and it says 'iPhone unavailable, try again in 15 minutes.' This has happened 3 times now. His phone is up to date, he hasn't tried entering his password. He has raised to wake turned off as well. Every time it happens, the error message says 15 minutes. We're really not sure what the problem could be.

Does he have a screen protector? Could be registering false touches and those can do that (especially if there's dust or something trapped underneath).
This message just popped out of the blue. What could be the reason?
You’ve been locked out for entering (either deliberately or inadvertently) your passcode incorrectly 6 times in a row. After 7 failed attempts in a row, the phone will be disabled for 5 minutes. After 8 failed attempts in a row, the phone will be disabled for 15 minutes. After 10 failed attempts in a row, the phone will be disabled for 1 hour and you’ll need to connect the phone to iTunes to get back in. Worth noting that if you have the “automatically erase phone after 10 failed attempts” security setting turned on, then that will also happen. More on reddit.com
