iPhone XS Camera Review: Zanzibar
August 29, 2021 - Powered by the A12 Bionic chip, in the picture above the iPhone XS is able to capture the dark shadows of the rock while maintaining strong detail in the sunlit clouds. I’ve never worked with a camera that can balance light like this—not even close.

iPhone XS camera review
As previously mentioned, the iPhone XS is pretty capable of lower-light shooting in mixed conditions, based on our early testing. When light is very low, it can struggle a little compared to the competition. A bit more light and detail and colour is nicely picked up. In our early tests, there isn't a huge amount of difference in camera quality ... Apple gets smart with the cameras on the iPhone XS

iPhone Xs Camera Review for Photography - ERIC KIM ₿
The photos on the iPhone look like they were shot on a phone, not a standalone camera. What I mean to say is this: by default, the photos don’t have enough dramatic contrast or saturation. Even when I process the photos in the default Photos app, or in VSCO, the photos don’t look that good aesthetically. The edges of the photos arenâ™t crisp, they feel muddy— I really don’t like the way they look. ... Here are some iPhone Xs photos processed in VSCO.

Apple iPhone XS review: Portrait mode, video quality, selfie camera
The video quality is excellent - the stabilization works great, there is more than enough detail, the colors are accurate, and the exposure is correct - the subject's face. HDR is available for the 30fps clips, as we mentioned, and it restores ...

January 31, 2018 - Well for the same aperture the depth of field is affected the closer you are to the subject, which is similar to how the iPhone handles it. Also f/1.4 has a very thin DOF for real cameras, so it make sense. ... Yes, this. At F/1.4 on a portrait lens it could be as thin as only having the eyes tack sharp and the nose would be out of focus ... I've got a Minolta 58mm 1.2 that can do that. The focal plane on that thing when wide open is about three inches deep. ... This is the best review I’ve read regarding the Xs’ cameras.

The iPhone XS is a leap forward in computational photography: Digital Photography Review
October 6, 2018 - It's only the last 5 years or so that mirrorless has brought high quality, affordability AND portability back into cameras... mostly sony/fuji doing this. ... The day I could replace my 600mm lens with it I may think about it. RAW? ... The thing with the Iphone X is that it was very clear from day 1 that it is programmed to use to low a shutter speed in low light. This is changed in the XS, but should also be changed in the X, which Apple has not done.

iPhone Xs / Xs Max Photo camera review - Alessandro Michelazzi Photography
December 17, 2020 - I have to make an important discourse about the noise in the photos taken in raw mode with the iPhone XR / Xs and Xs Max. There have been some changes in the management of the raw file compared to the generations of the previous iPhones, so all the photos taken in raw mode appear to be overexposed. This problem seems to arise since the camera’s algorithms prefer a faster shutter speed with a higher ISO to make the fusion of multiple images work better in JPG mode.

iPhone XS review
Comparing the iPhone XS and iPhone X with the same photo, it’s clear that the Smart HDR mode is the key difference here. While the overall quality of the snap is largely the same, the detail and brightness throughout is improved, which bodes well for when your photography skills are poorer ... The iPhone XS is still a solid phone

A Few Thoughts on the New iPhone XS Camera – The Sweet Setup
October 22, 2018 - I think in an effort to improve the dynamic range, and perhaps to correct the auto overexposure that happened with previous iPhones and to try to more perfectly expose, this weird refusal to lower the highlights in certain areas is the byproduct. Another thing I do like about the new XS camera is its low light performance.

I thought this could be fixed by simply turning off HDR and photo quality will be back to usual, but it is not. ...
