What exactly is different on the new iPhone Xs? Here's a spreadsheet comparing the specs between iPhone Xs and iPhone X
iPhone Xs / Xs Max / Xr MEGATHREAD (Tech specs, Preorders, etc.)
My first iPhone! My husband and I preordered in store this morning. We were the only ones to preorder in my store.
We are both getting the Xs Max 64GB. He is getting Space Gray, I opted for Gold.

Hi all,
When I was watching the keynote, I felt like everything was being presented for the first time like it was new. But I knew it wasn't... I saw the keynote last year and a lot felt like a repeat:
-
OLED HDR display
-
Surgical-grade stainless steel
-
Dual OIS rear-facing cameras
-
TrueDepth camera
-
Portrait mode
-
etc...
After they keynote I thought Apple had released a very polished and refined iPhone ready to deliver a premium experience. But I also thought to myself, okay, exactly what is new?
To find out, I used the WayBack Machine to look at Apple's website as it was Sept. 6th, a few days before the keynote and before iPhone X was discontinued. I grabbed the specs of iPhone X, and compared them with the newly listed specs for the iPhone Xs.
Here's what I found new with iPhone Xs:
-
A12 Bionic
-
Next-gen Neural Engine
-
Missing motion co-processor? (not mentioned on specs)
-
IP68 (vs IP67)
-
Advanced red-eye reduction
-
Smart HDR for photos
-
Portrait Mode with Advanced Bokeh Depth control
-
Extended dynamic range for video up to 30fps
-
Stereo recording
-
Front-facing 30fps and 60fps
-
Front-facing Smart HDR
-
Front-facing extended dynamic range
-
Cinematic video stabilization
-
Dual SIM with eSIM
-
Wider stereo playback
-
Talk time: 20h (down from 21h)
-
Video playback: 14h (up from 13h)
-
No Lightning to 3.5mm adapter
Not mentioned in the specs:
-
Faster FaceID unlock
-
Deeper, larger pixels for better lowlight performance
-
Improved flash (they improved the flash, right?)
So what do you think? After looking at the specs, this honestly made me realize how good of a value iPhone X is. iPhone X is currently going for ~$700 gently used on Swappa. That seems like one heck of a deal to me. iPhone X and Apple Watch Series 4 for around the same price as iPhone Xs? Yes, please.
Edit: formatting
Edit 2: accidentally skipped over the A12 Bionic, one of the most important new features. It's added now. Also, does iPhone Xs have a motion coprocessor? Wasn't listed on the specs!
