Palestine and the Middle East After the Iran-Israel war
July 15, 2025 - Many of the current dynamics appear to be continuations of past trends, albeit with heightened degrees of violence, cruelty, and criminality (most notably in the US-Israel joint-venture genocide against Palestinians and attacks on Iran). The unfolding transformations will affect numerous dimensions of conflict in the Middle East, including relations between major Arab powers and Iran, the actions of Iranian-assisted armed Islamist resistance groups, Turkey’s influence, and the role of great powers (the United States, Russia, and China) in the region.

I would like to be explained why Iran, Hezbollah, and the Houthis, all three being Shiites, are in favor of defending the Palestinians, who are Sunnis?
Supporting Palestinians is an easy way to gain support in the Muslim world. Iran and Saudi Arabia both seek to be the leader of the Muslim world. Does Iran (or Qatar or Turkey or Saudis) care about the Palestinians? Maybe, maybe not. But all of them show support to the Palestinians because it’s a cause that Muslims around the world are very passionate about. Also, I don’t think the Shia Sunni thing is relevant here. Gulf states backed away from supporting Palestinian militants. Saddam in Iraq and Gaddafi in Libya also couldn’t help anymore. This left an opening for Iran to support them, in exchange for positive PR in the Muslim world. More on reddit.com

What do Palestine supporters think of Iran?
Iran as a nation and as a people is great. I love Iran. The Iranian regime however are a bunch of Islamist turds who seem way more interested in keeping their people oppressed, and stirring shit up in the Middle East. More on reddit.com

Why are educated iranians in Iran supporting Palestine?

If the Iranian government says the sky is blue, Iranians will say it’s red.

I don't get Iranians that are pro-Palestinian.

Because I believe that people have a right to self-determination and, alongside international law, not be subject to illegal settlements and occupation. This isn't a football game where the side is either Israel or Palestine, there's always nuance.

I can also be against Hamas. I'm not sure, again, why we have to be attacked for being sympathetic to the Palestinian cause.

Israel-Hamas War: Iran and Its Proxies
July 8, 2025 - Jerusalem, Washington, and others also see Iran’s efforts to acquire nuclear weapons as a key strategic threat; despite attempts to curb Iran’s nuclear program through sanctions and, at times, negotiations, Iran is now considered a nuclear threshold state. Terror groups like Hamas and Hezbollah arose in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and use popular grievances against Israel—some legitimate—to feed their genocidal ideologies.

May 13, 2024 - Still, his opponents formed alliances with Palestinian guerrillas in Lebanon and elsewhere and criticized the Shah for insufficient support for the Palestinian cause. Forty-five years after the revolution that saw the Shah dethroned, there has been a significant shift in Iranian public opinion. While the Islamic Republic is considered the primary state enemy of Israel, the Palestinian-Israeli conflict does not appear to be a priority for the Iranian public, including various opposition groups, students, and intellectuals.

August 22, 2025 - Since the 1979 Revolution, despite exaggerated discursive aggression, Iran has hesitated to engage with Israel directly. Palestine has rarely been a central agenda item of Iran's foreign policy due to both a steadfast Iran-first policy and to the country's lack of conventional political and military capacity to resolve the conflict in the way it promises in its propaganda.

Iran: Continuity in Foreign Policy towards Israel after the War in Gaza : IEMed
Despite the international sanctions and diplomatic isolation to which Iran has been subjected almost since 1979, but more pronouncedly since 2006, its government continues to use the Palestinian issue as a cornerstone of its foreign policy. This reinforces its axis of resistance with other regional actors such as Hezbollah, Syria, the Iraqi Mobilisation Forces and the Yemeni Houthis, and allows it to maintain its influence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and among the Arab population, as demonstrated by the war that began in October 2023.

The Main Axes of Iran’s Foreign Policy Toward the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict
February 9, 2024 - Vali Kaleji, a Tehran-based expert on Central Asia and Caucasian Studies, postulates that for a better understanding of Iran’s current approach to the bloody war between Israel and Hamas, the main axes of the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding this old conflict in the Middle East should be identified. Iran doesn’t recognize the existence of a country called Israel, unlike its position toward the United States. Indeed, Iran is against any plan for peace and reconciliation with Israel. Instead, Iran supports holding a referendum with the participation of all the main native inhabitants of the Palestinian land, including Muslims, Christians and Jews, in order that they may exercise the right to self-determination and decide upon their type of political system.

There are Jewish extremists in the West Bank who are attacking Palestinians in the West Bank, and there's no excuse for that," said Schwartz.
