r/tax on Reddit: IRS Direct Pay - Reason for payment?
March 14, 2021 -

Hey all,

Need to make my payment for my 2020 tax return which is due tomorrow (5/17). Usually I select "Tax Return or Notice" as my reason when paying my returns at https://directpay.irs.gov/directpay. However, that option is gone. The closest one is "Balance Due". Anyone know which reason would be the correct one? I have a large payment to make so I want to make sure I do it right to avoid delays or future corrections.

Thanks everyone!
