It’s 3am here and my minds racing. I’ve been up doing calculus and CS homework on a Sunday just to get a new set for the week tomorrow. I’m busting my ass hoping it will all be worth it.
AI has taken the world by storm, and in class our professor jokingly (but in a serious tone) expressed how AI will replace him as a teacher and us as future developers. He stated right as we were all walking out that we better start liking Linear Algebra to be competitive by developing future AI.
My emphasis isn’t machine learning, and honestly I don’t have one yet, but I graduate in two years and I can’t help but wonder if all these student loans I’m taking will be for nothing. Why hire a newb developer when an AI can probably write Java with just one processor core.
Thank you for reading, late night insomnia sucks

Computer science use to be like the top degree to go into with technology booming like it is. Right now comp sci grads seem to be struggling to find jobs but it is more due to the economic situation rather than ai but when/ if the economy starts “booming” again will computer science grads still be in demand ? What do you guys think?
I love technology and my major, and I'm on track to graduate in about 3 years with a degree in computer science. The only thing is that ai is really good at coding, and its progressing so fast. People have been talking about ai replacing programmers for a while at this point. And I love my major, but I don't see the point of doing something and putting myself in debt for me to be unemployed. A lot of people are saying that trades are the way to go.
And that's cool and all, but I don't really want to work a trade. From what I've heard about trades is that they are very time intensive, require hard manual labor, and don't really pay a lot. Maybe I'm wrong. But im not sure. Plus, if all white collar jobs are gone and the only ones left are blue collar, aren't trades going to be super oversaturated and hard to get a job in since everyone is applying to these jobs?
There's nothing else I'm really interested in doing as a career other than computer science or something in tech. And how long will trades even be safe? maybe 10 years?? 20 max?? I'm just really lost and I have no idea what to do with my life. Any help greatly appreciated.
Hey everyone,
I'm planning to apply to universities and noticed that some offer both Computer Science (CS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) as separate majors. From what I understand, AI is more specialized, while CS is broader.
Some of my close people have suggested that I study AI. They believe that since many people have already graduated with CS degrees, it might be harder to stand out and secure a job. On the other hand, AI is in high demand, and with fewer people holding AI degrees, it could be easier to land a well-paying job in that field.
However, I'm uncertain. If I choose to study AI and it loses its popularity or demand, I might find it difficult to get a job not only in AI but also in other areas like web development. On the contrary, if I study CS, I'd have a wider range of career options, including AI and other fields like web development, since CS is a broader discipline.
I'd love to hear your thoughts. Do you think pursuing a CS degree would be a better choice in the long run and I shouldn't listen to my family?
Thanks! :)
