U.S. likely didn’t slip into recession in early 2022 despite negative GDP growth - Dallasfed.org
The sharp contrast between the index’s average recession path and the six-month path in 2022 suggests that a recession is unlikely to have started in first quarter 2022, despite two consecutive quarters of declining GDP in the first half of 2022.

Do home prices go down in a recession?
A number of factors go into the price of homes, but during a recession they generally go down. That’s largely because home prices are impacted by supply and demand — when demand is weaker, sellers often lower prices to entice home buyers. Demand is weaker for homes during a recession because people are less likely to want to make large purchases. However, home price slashing doesn’t always happen during a recession. During the 1990 recession home prices were stagnant and then declined slightly. In the 2001 recession, home prices increased. During the Great Recession, home prices dropped signifi

Do food prices go down in a recession?
Food prices are, inherently, volatile. They’re subject to consumer demand, supply-chain disruptions, geopolitical strife, tariffs on foreign imports, weather and disease. During a recession food prices tend to drop to entice consumers to make purchases.During the Great Recession, for example, the purchase of sale items rose dramatically, according to a 2015 analysis by the National Bureau of Economic Research.Food prices are currently higher than they were before the coronavirus pandemic. Inflation has slowed since 2022 highs, but prices remain elevated for food overall. However, food prices f

Is a recession coming?

I pay more than my bills are and aiming for everything to being 6-12mnth in advance. You can do this gradually so adding $5/10 per automatic payment. This also often gives you a discount for prompt payment on some bills.

It's a form of saving that doesn't show up as having money and potentially being penalised if needing to go on welfare.

Keep a stash of cash also for this reason.

Grow your non perishable groceries. Once you have a six month plus supply don't deplete them but do rotate with new supply.

Look into supermarket Christmas clubs and use them to save money for buying stuff in bulk for the following years (not Christmas treats) as they often give around a 5% bonus on the money ..another hiding place for money,

Lastly ring around your utilities and insurance etc and see if you can get better deals, just threatening to move often gets them to lower their rates. I reduced my insurance by $35 a month last time. and when a left a bad score of 1 out 1-5 score for my electric company they rang and I got 3 months free electricity.

Edited to add : If you can cash out any holiday pay do that now and put it into one of my above suggestions.

DON"T SPEND IT. I say this because if you are made redundant you will be made to wait and use up your holiday pay before receiving a benefit. This way you can keep it as part of your emergency fund.

US Economy is Headed for Recession
Inverted Yield Curve Inverted treasury yield curves have predicted the last five recessions. The US is currently experiencing another inverted yield curve. This means that investors taking out loans pay more for short-term loans than long-term ones. When investors put more faith in short-term loans, they convey a lack of confidence in long-term yields. Additionally, the Federal Reserve Bank has hiked rates to 5.25% since early 2022.
