Drop shipping isn't some great new thing. If you've ever visited a local store, like a furniture store, and they show you inventory that's not located in-store it's a good bet that's being drop-shipped. Now the question on it's profitability is no different than any other ecomm store. What makes drop-shipping better is that it's lower-risk, more profitability at low-scale, and more recently lower barrier to entry. It's not that it makes you more money, it's that you don't have to drop $1-5k in products to get started, but you make less money on the product. To get started pick a niche, purchase items within that niche yourself, test them out so that they're decent quality, delivery time, etc.. and then create a shopify/any other template-based store or even ebay/amazon and sell them. There's white-label products as well that don't have logos on them so you can get away with it without the consumer knowing your just a reseller. Then stop focusing on drop-shipping and start researching how to run an ecomm brand, the drop-shipping is only about sourcing the product and is fairly easy. You'll probably end up losing money in the end, but there's a small sliver of a chance you make a successful ecomm brand if you stick with it for an year or three. Now why is everyone talking about it? It's fairly cheap to get into, a few hundred bucks is enough to stand up an online store Some people make a ton of money with it and hype it up. Most people lose money, just like any other business. It's new enough to target peoples ignorance. Because selling courses and ad-revenue is another way to make good money, especially for some dude sitting in Asia with decent English. People exaggerate and lie claiming they're making six-figures and you can too - all you have to do is give them $50 or watch this ad-heavy website/video. Most of these are scams. r/sidehustle on Reddit: What is the REAL DEAL with dropshipping? Will Amazon cancel your account?
January 18, 2022 -
I keep hearing about dropshipping on the internet; Everyone is saying they are making six figures, but I am skeptical. If this works with Amazon or any other website, can you refer me to a resource or explain the steps so I can test it for myself?
Thank you!

The only thing about drop shipping is there are to many parties involved that control the process. You don't really get to control any part. You don't get to control whether or not Facebook or any other sales platform shuts you down, nor do you have control over Amazon just cancelling your account because they feel like it. I figured out I like flipping iPhones much better. I can control the process and it goes along with the age old saying of "Buy low and sell high"

Most people aren't, there's a reason all dropshipping subs/social media groups are flooded with "why is my store failing" posts & why all the apparent 7 figure dropshippers on Youtube are so desperate to sell dumb teenagers their courses. Amazon has played a big part, most people won't wait 3 weeks for an item like they used to when we were making good money from aliexpress, they also know Amazon sells basically everything they need. But the biggest part is just seller saturation, everyone these days watches some clickbait video and thinks they're going to be the next big dropshipper because "they'll put in more work than everyone else" and opens a store etc. You can still make very good money, but the "easy" money stopped years ago & anyone telling you it's easy now is just trying to convince themselves more than you (watch the comments in this post be exactly that, same as every crypto sub). Most successful dropshippers moved on to white labelling and/or bulk sourcing their own items because traditional dropshipping isn't a viable long-term income anymore, it's just playing the loto and hoping the algorithm chooses you.
