Hi,
I'm not the best storyteller so sorry in advance if this is confusing.
I was just visited by a sales person from Spectrum Business at my restaurant but something feels a bit weird, so I'd like to ask.
The sales rep came in and offered discount to lower my plan price by changing the Spectrum TV + Internet + phone bundle to Spectrum Internet + phone + Direct TV bundle. It was lowering about $15/month for 2-yr contract with the first month TV free. So I agreed to it. He asked for my recent Spectrum bill, made a call to his office, and after confirming the price, he said he will place the work order and to set up for autopay, I need to reinstate the billing info. So I inputed the card info on the spectrum webpage he directed on his phone. He then asked to use my business landline to call spectrum and add himself as an authorized user so that he can make rate changes. Until then, I had no suspicion.
But when the spectrum customer service he called asked me if I really want to put this sales rep as a user because then he can do anything with this account, I was a bit drawn back. Though at the time I thought 'what can he do as a user on spectrum account that can do me harm' so I allowed it. After the call ended, I asked for his business card but he said he ran out and instead I can take a picture of his work ID and left me a phone number.
I'm confused if this is a scam or not because the contact number I got for installation technician doesn't show up as any Direct TV or Spectrum when I search on google, but the $1 verification charge from Direct TV thats showing on my bank account right now has a legit Direct TV phone number.
It has been about 2 hours since the rep came by and all I have is a text message saying the installation technician will be reaching out today or tomorrow with a unverified contact number and $1 charge from Direct TV.
Is this a scam or am I just being paranoid?
Thank you in advance for your opinions 🙏
Direct TV and Spectrum are two different companies....
And I never heard of a saleman having to be a authorized user on a account...
And once he is on it, he can change anything.
Based on the details you've provided, there are a few red flags that you should consider:
Unsolicited visit: If the salesperson showed up at your restaurant without any prior appointment or request from your end, it's generally a good idea to be cautious.
Request for sensitive information: The salesperson asked you to provide your billing information on the Spectrum webpage he directed on his phone. Sharing your credit card information or any sensitive details with someone you don't know well can be risky.
Adding the salesperson as an authorized user: When the Spectrum customer service representative mentioned that adding the salesperson as an authorized user would give him control over the account, it raises concerns. Granting unauthorized individuals access to your accounts can potentially lead to misuse or unauthorized charges.
Lack of business card: Legitimate sales representatives typically have business cards readily available to provide customers. The fact that he didn't have one and only left a phone number may be another red flag.
While it's difficult to make a definitive judgment, these factors suggest a degree of caution. It's always a good idea to verify the legitimacy of the offer and the salesperson before proceeding. Here are some steps you can take:
Contact Spectrum directly: Reach out to Spectrum customer service using the official number listed on their website or on your previous bills. Verify the details of the offer, inquire about the sales representative who visited you, and confirm if the changes to your account were legitimate.
Contact DirecTV: Use the verified DirecTV phone number to contact their customer service and inquire about the installation technician and the $1 charge you observed. Confirm whether the technician is associated with them.
Monitor your accounts: Keep a close eye on your bank account and credit card statements for any unauthorized charges or suspicious activity. If you notice anything unusual, contact your bank immediately.
Remember, it's always better to err on the side of caution when it comes to potential scams. Taking these steps will help you gather more information and make an informed decision about the situation.

I got as far as checkout but hesitated to go all the way through in case it was a total scam. I need a window unit AC and these ones are like 75% off typical retail which I know is probably too good to be true.
What's the story here, is this a possible scam? Besides the price points and how new the domain is, I didn't see any red flags throughout the checkout process. I also found it through the Google shopping pane.
edit: Why are half the people on this subreddit kinda just being passive aggressive dicks about me asking this question? It's what this subreddit is for. And mass downvoting my replies?
Is Discount Tire and Discount Tire Direct two separate entities? I'm ordering two Falken Pro G5's and I had originally started to order and setup an appointment online at discounttire.com, but then got distracted and went back later to finish the order when I noticed a link for discountiredirect.com
Interestingly, I saw the prices were the same, but the extended warranty certificates were $30 each at the brick and mortar store, but only $16 each online. I'll still need to pay for the tire disposal and installation when it gets delivered to my house, but still seems like a deal if you order online.
