ESX (e.g. ES5, ES6, ES10) refers to versions of JS. Every new version adds some new features. If you find a tutorial that teaches ES6, it'll still be broadly applicable to ES10, it might just turn out that there are better ways to do one or two of the things you learn. ES6 fundamentally changed the JS world; Arrow functions, template literals (+multi-line strings), let/const, default function parameters. Making the language finally usable for more than your little 200 lines script. These were such important features (especially arrow functions) that it got quite a big hype. It was seens as the "HTML5"-package which included ES6 & CSS3. During that time a new era of the web has sparked, where folks were more seriously building SPAs with React, Vue & Angular. Before that you were usually using jQuery or maybe some AngularJS here and there. Usually things were server-side rendered (with e.g. PHP, C#, Java) and then some dynamic functionality was glued on web applications using jQuery. JS was kind off an after-thought. The versions after were quite important as well off course, but never to the same degree. The one feature which was similar scale in my opinion is async/await. In the end I think ES6 is such a popular search-term because it marked a new era of web dev More on reddit.com

Es6 is def still relevant and not at all outdated. most stuff after it is just in addition to it, so yes, es6 is very good to learn. More on reddit.com

That's pretty common. The syntax in the basic javascript section is largely what we refer to as "human readable". You're now learning some of the more complex features of the language that are less verbose and abstract away parts of the process. Just keep working on it and practicing. It's normal for this to be hard.

Out of all the JS versions,ES6 is the mostly mentioned one in google trends. Which is odd because ES5 seemed to be the standard for 6 years before ECMA2015. And ES7 added async / await which is pretty big. Everything after ES7 is almost unheard of.
Is there a reason why ES6 is such a big deal as opposed to ES7 or ES10?

It's kind of how people talk about "Angular 2" when they mean Angular 13 or whatever the latest version is. ES6 was the first version that departed from "old" javascript, and required a transpiler to work on most browsers. At the time you either used "old javascript", or ES6 with babel, so "ES6" basically became a synonym for "modern javascript" and it stuck even though ES6 is technically pretty outdated now.

If you find a tutorial that teaches ES6, it'll still be broadly applicable to ES10, it might just turn out that there are better ways to do one or two of the things you learn. u/PPewt ‘s explanation is spot on. People often reference ES6 because of the big updates it brought to the Ecmascript standard. ES6 brought changes to the JavaScript syntax like ‘let’ and ‘const’ for variable declaration, class syntax, and “fat arrow” function declaration. These (and other) updates shifted how people write JavaScript, making ES6 pivotal in its way. You should take time to learn how to read and write the JavaScript syntax in its older and newer forms. Learn the difference between ‘var’ and ‘let’, the ‘function’ keyword and ‘=>’, etc. It’s tricky, but it’ll make you a stronger developer and team member.
