r/hockeyjerseys on Reddit: Are Fanatics jerseys really THAT bad, or just worse when compared to Adidas authentic jerseys?
August 10, 2021 -

I understand when people say buy Adidas jerseys if you can because they’re better and closer to what players actually wear. I see that advice everywhere.

But I’m wondering if Fanatics jerseys are objectively bad to buy.

Where I live, it’s simply easier to find Fanatics branded stuff in the size I want (I’m a small dude so the smaller the better in terms of size). They also tend to be cheaper compared to Adidas stuff.

I know that all things being equal, Adidas would be better to have than Fanatics. However, I just find they’re not equal in terms of availability and price.

I’m just curious from people that have experience with both, are Fanatics actually terrible jerseys that people shouldn’t buy, or just lesser when compared to Adidas? Thanks.

Edit: Just wanted to add, I’m not a jersey collector or anything like that. Just looking for jerseys to wear occasionally to show I enjoy hockey.

I went to check them out yesterday and they look and feel cheap as hell. The chest emblems are thin and plasticy and the shoulder logos are even worse. I'm sure they're more comfortable for the players, being lightweight, but man they're crap compared to the Reeboks.

Edit: I genuinely didn't know Fanatics hate was a thing. I'm relatively new to this. Didn't mean to poke a bear.

Edit no.2: It was the breakaway model I was looking at. I didn't realize there were three lines of varying quality. My bad.

Hey guys, curious if you think this fanatics jersey is worth 100.00 (on sale) or if I should just go with a "made in China"/fake jersey? I know that is maybe not everyone's cup of tea to support a fake jersey but I have found them to be of decent quality...I have never bought a Fanatics jersey however.

What do you guys think of Fanatics? I know fake jerseys don't always have exact colors and sizes for emblems but just curious what your 2 cents are if a Fanatics jersey over a fake would be worth it.

I collect jerseys. I've got all different kinds. I think the hate against Fanatics replica jersey is greatly overblown. Is it on-ice quality? No... And it never claims to be. It's priced appropriately and, for what it's worth, is more comfortable than the authentic. If you're not a hobbyist who collects these things and you're just looking for something to wear to games or on the couch or looking for an entry into the hobby, the fanatics jersey is a completely reasonable option. Plus, if you spill a beer or drop food on it, you're not out $400. I would not recommend one of the fakes from China. They're not worth the money which is saying something because they're usually like $40. That said, lots of people buy them. Most of the jerseys I see at games are fakes and honestly, the NHL and Fanatics/Adidas/Reebok are to blame for that by pricing their fans out of the market. TL;DR: Fanatics $100 jersey is fine. Wouldn't recommend a fake. Follow your heart.

I remember your post from a couple weeks ago. I still strongly suggest that you not buy a fake. You may save a few dollars, but the quality is very poor. I can almost guarantee that if you buy something off DHgate, it will not look like the photo in the listing. You will not get something that looks good. Proportions, colors, and even the shape of the logo crest may be way off. That said, $100 Canadian is a more than fair price for a fanatics jersey. They’re more like long sleeve shirts than jerseys, but they’re still better than fakes. I have quite a few jerseys, including one fanatics which was gifted to me. I wear it when I’m watching games at home because I don’t mind it I get dog hair on it.

Guys, I have a question that I would be thankful if someone would give some insight to. I have been a MLB fan for a while now, I enjoy the sport and I love the Mets, for my birthday I thought that I am going to buy a jersey from Fanatics, I wanted the actual good quality stuff so I decided to save up before my birthday, but now I am at a somewhat of a roadblock, because when checking one of the jersey's descriptions (price being 394.99) the MLB batter man and jock logo are apparently heat applied, and I was under the impression that when I buy the high quality stuff I'm paying for it to be stitched on rather than just heat applied, it also doesn't say whether last name and jersey are also stitched on or heat applied. I would appreciate any and all help, and some clarification, their descriptions don't give me much to go off and every single review on youtube I saw were a couple of months old so maybe it's outdated. I am sorry if my question seems stupid, but it's my first time buying a jersey and I want to be informed.
Here's the link to the jersey:

February 5, 2025 - I have gotten clarification from the Blueline store. The patch in the promo photos is only for the $600 Player Authentic version of the jersey. From what they said it sounds like the Blueline had the cheaper sub laminar patches made since fanatics wasn’t including them.

I know fanatics has a certain stigma about it, and some rightfully earned. But this past weekend my wife and I drove up to Dallas from Houston to see my hometown Islanders play. We got there early and had a chance to see the new fanatics premium jerseys and authentic pro (or whatever it's called).

I was surprised at how well they held up to the adidas authentic ones. Although I kind of liked the dimples on the shoulders, them being gone isn't that big of a deal. The only bad thing I can say about the new premium ones is they seem to fit a bit smaller than the adidas ones did. I tried a 56 and it was definitely tighter than my Islanders 56 adidas Primegreen. Otherwise they were good and fairly priced compared to what adidas used to cost.

They had the authentic pro for $425 in the team store. It felt much heavier than the premiums. It was kind of cramped and crowded in the store so i didn't actually get to try it on. But maybe next time I go home to New York next year I can try one on at the Islanders team store and see.

I totally understand why Fanatics gets the negative press it does. But as someone who has been collecting hockey jerseys since the 1990's, I don't think this one was bad. It's not like we have a choice here for the next decade anyway. Unless they radically change them in the future i will be fine purchasing a premium Islanders one or other teams jerseys I like.

r/hockey on Reddit: [Discussion] Fanatics brand merchandise is absolutely terrible. DO NOT buy from them.
June 7, 2019 -

Hi everyone. I know this subject has been beat to death but I just need to complain because I'm really frustrated.

I've been a hockey fan ever since I can remember. My mom was a massive Bruins fan and exposed me to the game at a very early age. So, obviously, I've loved wearing NHL merch. Not just from the Bruins but other teams as well. Ever since the NHL switched to Fanatics as their main brand I have never received a quality product. Here are some examples of the problems they have:

  1. The sizing is never accurate. Sometimes I order an XL(which is my standard shirt size that fits me well) and very rarely does it fit. Sometimes it's too big, sometimes it's too small, but almost never is it the right size.

  2. The shirts almost always shrink in the washing machine.

  3. The logos and other things printed on the shirt are of terrible quality. Not only do they start flaking off after just two or three washes, I've also gotten several shirts where the logo is not even centered on the shirt properly, which just looks dumb.

  4. Sometimes you do not receive the product you buy. For example, I once bought a Johnny Gaudreau name and number tee with the standard Flames logo on it, and instead I got the white logo. This was fine because I actually prefer the white logo, but then I had to get rid of the shirt just a few weeks later because it shrunk in the washing machine.

  5. The jerseys are VERY bad quality. The numbers and logos are pressed on the jersey and frequently will start peeling off. They do not fit like normal jerseys and are just bad in general.

  6. The colors on the logos frequently change. Whites often fade to gross yellows after a few washes, the colors blend together, and they fade quite easily.

These are just a few of the many issues with Fanatics. In general the product they sell is not good and very overpriced. I wish the NHL would reconsider their arrangements with them because I really love getting NHL merch but will not be doing it from fanatics anymore.
