most of the time the real deals are in the store, and not observable on an app/email/advertisement. that is by design. yes prices on some items can be as high as traditional grocers, or worse when you find a deal in a store, take a picture of the tag. plenty of times the register will not ring it up the way its tagged, and it saves time (versus them having to do a price check) if you can show them. i have made them give me small cash refunds over this issue, and their mis-tagging is a chronic problem, particularly at some franchisees. every once in a while one can get a good deal on a good wine, but most of their wine is generally low quality bulk wine sold at correspondingly low prices. if you see something sold as 'california' or 'oregon' or 'washington' that's bulk wine. certain staples like bread, chips, tortillas etc. are stocked by their suppliers and won't ever have any deals. they have designated shelf space with a consistent inventory mix and you can tell quickly, since those tend to be tidier than the area GO stocks themselves. r/GroceryOutlet on Reddit: Is Grocery Outlet actually that good with prices?
February 18, 2023 -

I haven't shopped there, so consider me uninformed. I look at their "Wow Deals" and often the prices are those I can find elsewhere. For example, a current one is 2 8-oz bag of chips for $5. That kind of promotion is a regular at Albertson's and Kroger stores.

Maybe the prices are better on things not features in Wow Deals? Help me out. If you're saving money at G.O. what kind of things should I stop buying at Albertson's and Krogers and instead buy at G.O.?

Grocery Outlet doesn't always have the best, most expensive wine, but they always have good prices. And sometimes they do get the fancy stuff, for example, when Wine.com went out of business in 2001, Grocery Outlet snagged the company's inventory. You'll find different opinions about the quality of the wine at the stores, but the prices are never up for debate.

r/GroceryOutlet on Reddit: Grocery Outlet overpriced not bargains
July 20, 2024 -

I have regularly shopped at GOBM for years. It was a joy to shop there you could always find super reasonable prices a nice selection of vegan and vegetarian food. Over the past year or so I’ve noticed that the majority is as much as Kroger or more and Trader Joe’s is less for several things. I went shopping three weeks ago I usually have some staples that I always buy. When I went in yesterday I was shocked at how much the prices have been jacked up.Bars I bought for 399 three weeks ago was 599; frozen food that was 199 was now 499. Pizza I had bought that was 299 was for 599. Oyster crackers .99 were 1.99. All the same brands And the list goes on. They have plants there that were ridiculously overpriced 4 inch pots which used to be $.99 everywhere else which are now 149 are priced to 299 to 799!! I found the only bargain I can find at bargain market are the things that are about to expire that they have to clear out. It is so disappointing and ugly that they are jumping on the jack up the food prices train. Other things they had like solar lights the dollar tree sells for 125 are 599. Shopping in the store last night made me physically ill. I decided to check out a different grocery outlet bargain market to see if it was just that franchise owned store or if it was across the board. Sadly it was the same. Cans of soup for 499 that aren’t even high-quality. It is like they are taking a page out of the Walmart rule book make a couple things cheaper and jack everything up high. Are used to really enjoy going to the store now it’s just another high price grocery store. Oh yeah by the way they jack up the price you would be paying so it looks like you’re saving when in truth you really aren’t. This type of price gouging really hurts families and people trying to make ends meet. The whole purpose of having a store like that is to able to save and get more bang for your buck. If I had bought exactly the same items my total before tax would have been 23.00 MORE for the exact same things I purchased 3 weeks ago. I am so sad and disappointed in this company.

September 14, 2023 - Grocery Outlets are also locally owned and the owners are required to work within the store, so they can't just open a bunch of stores and barely run it from far away. It's locally owned AND operated. We absolutely love our local store and they put a lot of good back into the community, as well. I would imagine, as they are independently owned and operated, the quality of the store itself can vary, but all the stores I've been inside have operated and run fairly well, been clean and well stocked, and have great customer service.

Walmart had prices about 26 percent lower; Grocery Outlet, which offers a somewhat odd assortment of steeply discounted surplus national-brand products, offered prices that were about 23 percent lower than average.
