Hey, I am a student and do not have a budget required for premium. So my question is, which platform would cost me less if I want to start my learning? Also, I am relatively new to this field, so can you all please guide how to start learning and make a career in this field?
Qualification: Engineering student, C++, currently also exploring the field of competitive programming.
Any kind of help will be appreciated.

Q. What level of support does Hack The Box offer?
Q. Who are the typical users of Hack The Box?
Do academic institutions receive custom packages on Hack The Box?
Hi everyone, I’m new to Hack The Box and trying to understand how far I can go on the free tier. Can I continue practicing labs and improving my skills without paying, or will I eventually need to buy cubes to keep progressing? If you’ve used HTB for a while on the free plan, what limitations did you run into? I’m mainly interested in hands-on practice and learning, not certificates. Thanks in advance.
I’m curious do most of you guys buy the tokens to take each path or anything else? I noticed some are priced 2000 tokens while others could be as high as 4000. I tried doing it free but it seems that there very little content that is actually free. I guess what I’m asking is how do you guys progress? Do you buy each path or course for tokens or have a monthly payment, if so how much, and what does it cover for you. I’m currently not a student so no discount would apply to me. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks guys.
Edit: 6/22/24 Thanks guys for your help so far. I discovered my student email where I got my AA Degree a community college is still active after ten years, isn’t it odd? I can login directly through the community college portal and send and receive email. So I’m just going to do $8 per month till I get to tier 2. Thanks again everyone.
I been into hacking for about ten years on and off teaching myself via ebooks I find online (Google: Python Security file type:pdf) and endless of online content. Learned python and Perl and used them to do many many VulnHub.com’s vulnerable ctf’s. I like to write my own little scanners port knockers etc to do ctfs to learn the language a little better instead of just finding the source and copying and pasting. I even have a site HackersAreUs.com where I wrote walkthroughs and used the site as my journal instead of using notes as my go to (still have the site but just stopped playing the hosting for now). So I’m far from a noob but I can say for me, if I don’t use it, I lose it. I don’t know if I am ever going to get a job in the infosec field especially at my age but my interest in it will not let me rest. Anyway, thanks again everyone.
