I find this discussion challenging. We know a bit about the T.rex, but a lot is ambiguous. Comparing it to an outright work of fiction is tricky. If the Indominus was a regular theropod, I doubt it would stand a chance. The T.rex was a tank, massive and muscular. It had the strongest bite force ever seen. In contrast, the Indominus is a bag of bones. It is slender, it has a lighter skull with fewer and probably smaller teeth that don't interlock. They don't cut off flesh. A bite from the Indominus wouldn't cause severe damage to the robust neck of a Tyrannosaurus, unless it struck an artery. While the claws of the Indominus could inflict bigger wounds, if Rexy chomps down with full force, the battle is over. However, with the Indominus being a movie monster, anything is possible. They don't explain its durability, portraying it as a supervillain with no apparent weakness, except for being smaller than a mosasaurus. Invincibility is a killer argument. But assuming it's "just" very strong and tenacious, and more agile than the Rex, it could potentially hurt the opponent. If it could avoid Rexy's jaws, its hands might be a threat. If it could grip its skull and swing about, it might by a small chance break its neck. If it could ram Rexy and flip her, there's a chance to suffocate her. Overall, the fight in the movie had good dynamic, it's just that one animal had absurd superpowers. However, this isn't limited to dinosaurs; it happens with movie humans too. They take a bullet and shrug it off, just like Indo and Spino shrug off a Rex bite. In conclusion, as always, the only theropod that stands a fair chance against a Tyrannosaurus is another Tyrannosaurus. More on reddit.com

First off, that it appears in India is going to confuse scientists. India was an island during the Cretaceous, having split off from Gondwana, The other sites would be in Asia, which split off from Laurasia. In theory, there should not be much in the way of shared animals between the two. So scientists are going to theorize that it is an excellent swimmer, good enough to cross hundreds of miles of open water. As for what it is, it seems to have the folding arms of a maniraptoran (sometimes, though not always in skeleton toys of the thing), and a skull relatively similar to a tyrannosaurid. Further, it has 4 fingers in each hand, a trait missing outside of very basal theropods, and nonexistent in coelurosaurs like tyrannosaurids and maniraptorans. This thing is going to cause a ton of arguments, but I think that it probably ends up as a really weird ceratosaur relative, given its 4 fingered hands. It is probably put into its own group of dinosaurs, I propose an offbranch of Noasauridae that lived in India and became massive after filling an unfilled apex predator niche on the island continent, then somehow made it to the mainland.

I know that the I Rex from Jurassic World is just a hybrid dinosaur, but we know that the JP movies have their dinosaurs look radically different compared to real life. I mean, the real answer is that it would look like a barely dirty Petri dish or a rotten egg. Genetics aren’t Lego blocks that can be taken apart and assembled again piece by piece. Which proteins were taken from which animals? Assuming that you successfully interpreted which ones coded for which traits, how do you handle the vascular system? Does it have the veins of a T.rex and the arteries of a Velociraptor? Are the optic nerves from a cuttlefish? That’s going to be a problem. The outside (what it looks like) is going to follow how it functions, and that will shape things like the energy available to grow teeth, to develop muscle, etc. Imagine a gorilla and a human. We are far more closely related than some of the species mixed up with I.rex, but we can’t just “add human DNA” to a gorilla to make it smarter while keeping gorilla strength. Brain development, skull shape, and metabolism all go into making humans “smart”. TL;DR— like whatever you want it to look like. It’s a dragon or a gryphon or a manticore. Its appearance is driven by imagination and not any connection to reality, besides a small bit of inspiration.
