I don't know anything about it being sketchy... it's definitely not a site I've ever gotten vibes from that would be doing anything shady.

I was having trouble downloading one of my maps in chrome so I went to Firefox to get it to work and Firefox alerted me (though I should have looked myself) that inkarnate is not secure (typically seen with a green bar or lock symbol in the address bar). Is this something coming or is there a reason that this is the case?

The larger map size is very nice. You get a slew of additions that are not available with the free version. There are about double the textures that you can use. For $25 for a year it is far worth it. Very cheap and you get MANY more additions to play with.

I've been working a lot lately on concepts for a homebrew world and even tried using worldographer to help generate a map. I've not been completely satisfied with worldographer and have been thinking of trying to use inkarnate because of how much more aesthetically pleasing and free form the maps are.
My question is basically, how good is the free version? As someone without experience on this sort of thing, will I be able to use the tools in the free version to make an at least decent start point, or is inkarnate only worth using if you pay?

It’s pretty damn good, you’re limited in which assets you can use, but I think the free asset packs are still pretty nice looking. Definitely worth playing around with at least. If you ever do decide to go for the subscription, it’s not too pricy—the yearly is $25, so if you like what you make on the free version, and keep eying the premium asset packs, (paper cartographer my beloved,) could be worthwhile!

Just an echo of the other comments but yes it’s awesome. I would suggest you make at least a few maps before upgrading, but I would also endorse that
