I want to buy a new macbook to manage my music library in my living room. It will be connected to the Hi-Fi setup and will play music from Spotify, Apple Music (iTunes) and web pages (like web radios)
I've been looking at retina 2015 models :
I want the most recent mac possible but i'm also not super rich so i won't be buying anything new. I want at least a full Terabyte of SSD for my music library to fit properly and with some extra free space for the day spotify finally supports Lossless audio.
I'm also interested in it having the optical output which apple dropped by 2016
I see the 2015 will support monterey only, how long will i be able to use that ? Do you think it's possible to install something more recent on it without making it slow / loud.
Thank you all ! Have a very nice week ;)
Hello,
Iโll have an MBP M3 at home after switching from Windows, but I need a cheap Intel MBA for urgent tasks while travelingโediting docs, signing files, etc.โwithout worrying about damage or security.
My key question: Roughly how many years can I use it (e.g., with Monterey OS) while keeping Google Chrome and LibreOffice functional? Iโm not concerned about battery life.
For example, would a MacBook Air A1466 (i5-5250U, 8GB DDR3, 256GB SSD) still be viable?
I know it is no longer supported but I prefer the old version. From ventura I've had so many bugs
Iโve got an old MacBook Air, I canโt upgrade it past Monterey and know itโs out of support.
I have a different laptop for work and ipad/phone for daily personal use. I only really use my MacBook for attending online university tutorials, browsing online module info/library and writing/submitting assignments (which is part time study).
I know thereโs security risks involved in staying on it, but like how risky is it?
Prior to this Air I always had Windows computers so they usually died before being end-of-lifed ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ
I want a new laptop but was hoping to get another 2-3 years out of this one so Iโm closer to being qualified๐ค๐ป
Thoughts from those more knowledgeable please? ๐๐ป
Hello everyone! This Mac is my first and only Mac, so I'm not that familiar with making the best judgments about it. I would really appreciate our opinions and advice.
About my mac.
It's Macbook pro 2016 (https://support.apple.com/en-ph/111999) - link
Processor: 2.9 Ghz Dual-core Intel core i5
Original OS is i think Sierra, but now its Monterey.
Replaced the battery once and the OS was also updated to Montery.
Now, for the purpose of this MAC
I just use this for personal use. Like browsing sites, social medias, files, notes sync with my iphone, mail, etc
I have a separate laptop that I use for work, which is a ThinkPad, and I am more familiar with it.
I won't say this laptop is perfect, there are times when it slows down, but not that it caused inconvenience.
Most of my files are on cloud as it is synced with my iphone, though I have around 400 photos saved only on this MAC. Which I could just upload again.
Reasons why I didn't think to upgrade yet
-
I could buy a new one but it will impact my savings.
-
I love the Touch Bar feature, which I don't see on the newer MacBook Pro models. This might seem unimportant to some, but after using this Mac for years, it became natural for me to use it without glancing.
-
Just so compact 13" laptop and handy to bring
Question
I've research and saw this article
https://it.ucsf.edu/standard-guideline/macos-big-sur-and-older-versions-discontinued#:~:text=Expect%20macOS%20Monterey%20support%20to,be%20supported%20later%20this%20year.
I don't know if it will be still doable for my laptop to upgrade to a newer OS? what do you think?
Upgrade the OS and keep the MAC? or trade this old baby and purchase a new mac? if so, what do you think should I purchase for this kind of purpose? I prefer smaller like 14" if ever.
Thank you!
I just picked up a 2015 MacBook Pro (13.3", i5, 8GB, 256GB) for $25 and this is my first time actually owning a Mac of any kind (I'm plenty familiar with them and 100% prefer my PCs, but I thought for $25 it'd be a neat little thing just to mess around with because I like tech stuff). It's currently running Big Sur and is able to upgrade to Monterey.
Is there any reason I may not want to do that, or is it just fine/recommended that I do? The reason I ask is because I know stuff running slightly older software can run better on the older one and upgrading to the last version available is sometimes more of a curse on the device than anything else, like with some older iPhones and newer (relatively speaking) versions of iOS
Hi,
With the next MacOS soon to be announced (WWDC probably), I was curious to know if some people out there are still holding on to Monterey.
I have been on Ventura for 3 months now, Borderlands 3 is mostly working fine and have not run into many issues. Only big problem for me is the option to prevent the Mac from sleeping while monitor off and plugged in. It rarely works on Ventura, it usually lets the laptop sleep even if I ask it not to. Monterey never had that issue.
Hi, I am looking for a cheap MacBook Air and I found an early 2015 for a good price. Unfortunatly itโs not compatible with the lastest Mac OS version and will be stuck on Monterey.
I donโt know much about Mac OS so I would like to know if I will still be able to install most apps and get updates for them. I will use the computer mainly for iCloud and light browsing.
Thanks
Hey guys, owner of a MacBook Pro 2020 i5, 8GB 256SSD and a modded 2011 27" iMac.
Can you convince me to upgrade my macOS? Since I got my MacBook Pro in 2020, I have upgraded the OS every year on macOS launch day. However about 2 months ago I decided to downgrade from Sequoia to Monterey 12.7.6 (latest version) as Sequoia I found to be quite buggy, performance seemed slow, and thermals were very poor.
Since being on Monterey, my INTEL Mac has somehow stayed consistently cool, it feels faster, there aren't any major compatibility issues with the apps I use and I find Monterey to be a really polished OS!
In terms of macOS since 2020, I'd say Ventura is the oldest macOS which is most similar to Sequoia - I find Monterey to be much more similar to Big Sur, Catalina etc...
Looking online 'is Ventura quicker than Monterey' - there are so many mixed results. I don't know if Ventura will perform as nicely on my Mac as Monterey..
Could you give me any for and against factors to download a newer OS, OR stay on Monterey? Thank you :)
(I have no intention of scrapping the iMac, I will get rid of it once it stops working, but I do plan to upgrade my MacBook in 2 years or so)
P.S The same applies to my iMac, which I have modded to give it 32GB RAM, 3TB SSD, 4GB NVIDIA Quadro K3100M GPU and an I7-2600, which I find runs Monterey smoother than any of the other newer OS'.
Unfortunately I cannot upgrade to Ventura. If I will not visit shady websites I should be alright isn't it?
