Hey guys, so i just finished watching the made in abyss anime, and well im contemplating whether to watch the recap movies or not. i know there would be new scenes but i dont want to sit for 4 hours with internet that buffers to see repeated scenes. i was thinking about jumping to third movie which is a continuation of the anime. Could you guys tell me whats new,or help me find a way to see the new scenes without the recaps or should i just suck it up and watch them??
thanksss
In this US here, I haven’t seen the Made in Abyss anime yet but, there’s news the first recap movie is going to be shown in theaters.
Saw this as an opportunity to watch on the big screen with my friends, but I question if its just better to watch the anime.
Are any of the good scenes from the anime edited/removed from the movie?
Do I miss out on anything from the anime(like the music)?
I also heard that there’s 2 movies, are they both recaps? Will I not get the full story by just watching this first movie? Edit: read the faq Please answer with no spoilers, thanks
So I personally don't like recap movies. I've had a bad experience with the little recap movies I've seen recently. The recap movies I have seen have just been a compilation of scenes from the anime thrown in chronological order with no context at all, ohh with small extended scenes also. I'm a little hopeful that the Mia recap films will be able to tell explain the story well to a person who didn't watch the anime or knows nothing about the show whatsoever.
All i want to ask for whoever has seen the MIA films is;
-
how smoothly does the film flow,
-
is it good for someone who is new to made in abyss,
-
and at the end of the second film does it hint at anything to lead into the 3rd movie. (I've already read the manga, so don't hold back on the details)

The two films follow the first season, with some cuts but overall I feel like maybe it might seem a bit more relaxing? since some of the monster encounters have been removed. So a bit less action, I suppose. The new music is good but I actually prefer some of the music choices in the original anime. Basically like..some things I prefer how the movie did, other things I prefer how the series did. But that's just how I feel about it.

There is added narration to help explain everything, so I think it's fine for that. I went to a couple of the screenings with the main 3 voice actresses, and they checked like if there were people new to Made in Abyss, and asked if they were able to understand things alright and there didn't seem to be any issues.

It hints since there's the scene with Bondrewd and Prushka talking, so basically like you know they'll show up in the 3rd movie of course. It's mostly a father/daughter kinda sweet moment, but still.
hmm isn't a recapitulation film made expressly for people who've watched the original anime in the first place? It wouldn't do a new comer any good.
I would personally be interested if some mangaka sanctioned tidbits of original content that can be considered pseudo canon were included here and there.
Since I'm positive that I'm going to be re-watching the anime again (1st anime that I'm so smitten with that I would happily re-watch), if the movies just turn out to be straight forward recap overviews, I won't be as keen.
So I just finished the third movie of Made in Abyss, so I could finally start the new season. The Movie was fantastic overall. But something really bothers me:
Did they really let Bondrewd slip after all the cruel, inhuman experiments he did?! I mean doesn't it occur to them, that, altough Bondrewd now shares/supports their "aspiration", he is still a danger to everyone else? There is no reassurance that Bondrewd won't keep on with those expirements.
Or does the last conversation between Nanachi and Bondrewd mean, he turned over a new leaf?
Honestly, I don't get why they didn't finished him off. It would have been a good conclusion for his character. It was rather weird to see that he was fine during their departure.
Would like to hear some opinions on this. If this question might be answered later during the story pls tag the answer as a spoiler.
Edit: To each their own. But I have to say I'm shocked by how many of you are satisfied with the idea, that Bondrewd acted for a greater purpose. Imagine if in our world People would experiment on children. It would also serve a greater purpose but doesn't happen for a reason. Well, let me give you something to think about. Would you agree to have half our population get annihilated? It would stop the overpopulation, slow down the greenhouse effect drastically, excess demand will go back. Ressources can recover etc.
