It's 100% because of the rewards. I've earned enough points for two free printers each with AMS. I share stuff for free because I like making things, but the rewards from MakerWorld are too good to pass up. Printables has a reward system as well, but you can only use your 'meters' on one spool per order, and with shipping it ends up being nearly as expensive as a mid-tier brand of filament. I usually give my Printables codes away to freinds who regularly order Prusament anyway. Answer from balderstash on reddit.com

Do I need a Bambu Lab printer to use MakerWorld?
No. Anyone can download STL files from MakerWorld and slice them in their own software. The one-click print feature is built for Bambu Lab machines, but the raw STL and 3MF files work on any 3D printer.

r/3Dprinting on Reddit: Why is MakerWorld so popular here?
March 3, 2024 -

When someone posts their model here, I very often see only a MakerWorld link. While it might be easier for Bambu users, it makes it more annoying to users that don't have an account there. Same goes for Cults and other forced registration sites. In my opinion, Thingiverse and Printables should be the preferred choice for sharing a free model, since they are more open to users that just want to download a model and nothing else.

Edit: It seems to be mainly because of the reward system, which apparently pays out really well (probably temporarily done at a loss by Bambu to attract new users to their ecosystem). I can understand people using this if they are able to get free printers just by sharing their models for free.
