I could be wrong, but if the commercials I see during MLB games are worth a damn, I can save big money at Menard's. Answer from cbarone1 on reddit.com

I've shopped frequently at the Mentor Menard's store after its opening a few years ago. It provides a third alternative to Lowe's and Home Depot, and often is much cheaper, but you have to shop. The Mentor Menard's is across the street from the Mentor Home Depot and Sam's Club.

The other two Menard's in Greater Cleveland are on Brookpark Road and in Avon.

https://www.menards.com/store-details/locator.html

Menard's has a different business model than Home Depot and Lowe's. It very frequently offers 11 percent off mail-in rebates on all goods purchased, offers a weekly advertising brochure of sales, and doesn't use in-house installers but keeps lists of independent contractors in the area. It's has a very large, very price competitive garden center and offers very cheap seed prices.

The Mentor Lowe's is minutes away, so Mentor is a great location to price shop these three hardware Big Box chains.

The Big Box hardware chain garden centers will be stocking up in the next few weeks. Gales Garden Center, a mile south of I-90 on Route 91 is a good alternative to the Big Box hardware garden center chains in Lake County. I mostly buy my plants at Gales (especially for tomato plants), Menard's and Home Depot, which sometime in May puts plants in its parking lot with good sales at the end of May.

December 14, 2023 -

Is Menard's a legitimate business or are they scammers?

In trying to check their shipping cost for an item, I went through their shopping cart's checkout process just far enough to see that shipping cost. In that process, I entered an e-mail address (and didn't check any box to sign up for marketing e-mail).

But, of course, they starting e-mailing me marketing crap the next business day.

Then, when I clicked on a message's "Do you no longer wish to receive these messages? Click here" link, it took me to a page for only subscribing, with no option for unsubscribing.

Then, when I tried to find a customer service phone number to call, I found that they don't reveal any such number.

So, how shady are they?

Menards Reviews 2025: Cost, Pros & Cons
I would like to warn all the homeowners out there to be very cautious before trusting Menards. Their garage and shed kids are supposed to be DIY, but you will find out. They will deliver extremely subpar lumber that is gray and cracked. The price do not match up to code.

I want to buy some storage bins and other organizing tools. I was wondering what people felt about Menards or Lowe's which are the two closest to myself I don't mind going to Home Depot.

Any other suggestions for storage options and organizing tools?

October 21, 2021 -

I’ve been job searching recently and I’m kinda thinking of playing the field. I work at a paint company right now (rhymes with Bherwin Billiams) and everyone is quitting that I actually enjoy working with. What are the pros and cons of your job and if you work in the paint department what’s it like? I’m currently making $13.77 right now and have over a years worth of experience with paint, do you think Menards could match that? Thanks in advance!

Pros: the pay, it's very good for what is usually considered minimum wage retail. 16-17 dollars an hour because of a 4 dollar incentive right now. growth in the company (also a con will get to that later). They like hiring managers from in the company rather than bringing in outside people Depending on what department you're in, it's not a difficult job, there are some stressful moments but by no means is any of the jobs too difficult. Department heads are usually cool and everyone is on the same page. Cons: the customers suck. Menards invites and breeds entitled customers, you will run into them. growth in the company only if upper management likes you. It doesn't matter how buddied up you are with your department head, if the GM doesn't like you for whatever reason, you can forget moving up. horrible health insurance normalizing long hours (9-10 full time, up to 13+ as a manager).

All experiences you read will be from different people at different stores/markets, so I'd try to come to a conclusion after more responses are given. That being said, I'll list some from my personal experience: Pros: ▪︎Good pay for retail standards (I make $15.20/hr as a part-timer) ▪︎Good flexibility in most cases (DMs (department managers) are usually good at accepting your requested unpaid days off for stuff like doctors appointments, etc. However you may come across 1 or 2 that are not as nice. Like for example, our front end manager I heard when she came in, she kept denying the requests for no reason so a bunch of people quit that department and either transferred or left completely) ▪︎IPS is a good bonus goal to have. 1000 hours a year and if your store is profitable, you'll get 2.5% of your annual salary as a bonus check. This percentage goes up every year until you reach 15% ▪︎You get gifts for events like Christmas or yout Birthday. Some of the gifts kinda suck (like we got Chapstick once for valentines day), but you can get good stuff like a tote or cup holders, etc. ▪︎I can't speak for all 330+ stores, but my store has very little toxicity between all employees. We have that one front end manager that a lot of us despise but that's about it. All of our general managers are nice too. But it will come down to your store specifically. Some cons: ▪︎You will come across some bad customers (guests), but usually it's not THAT bad, usually. Every store has its Karens, but most of them at Menards don't make it past the service desk at the entrance doors, because they are usually mad about returning a product. Most customers are contractors or older guys doing smaller projects in my experience. ▪︎You will probably do heavy lifting at some point no matter what department you work in. It's home improvement, so things ranging from lawn mowers to wood, or paint buckets or counter tops, the list goes on. Most of it is under 50 pounds but some stuff is really heavy so it will take two people sometimes. ▪︎Weekends will probably be bullshit chaos no matter where you're at, you just have to power through it lol

December 31, 2018 - Menards is low pressure sales if you end up in a sales department. They want us to pursue guests and attempt for them to buy but we dont force the sale into their cart so to speak. Ive done high pressure sales and it makes me feel greasy afterwards cause I sold something that people don’t need, at Menards you listen to the guests needs and sell them that.

I've sent in receipts to the rebate program totaling over $500 starting September and haven't received anything back. I've already reached out to the rebate-specific customer service email and have been met with nothing. Now that I'm doing some searching around, it seems a lot of people have experienced much of the same, referring to this program as a scam. I'm hoping that's not the case.

Never particularly liked the store to begin with, but they are about 7 miles closer to me than Home Depot, so it saved about 15 minutes on an already long trip for things.

Now you can do your own research on why Menards sucks, everything from the owner being a douche (making personal visits to stores and firing anyone who looks at him funny), to their piss poor environmental record (worst than any other hardware/big box store), to price gouging masks during the pandemic (which they apologized for it, as if that makes it better), to terrible Covid-19 practices.

So where do I fit in? Well they recently got rid of the ability for their cashiers in returns to look up returns by your credit card, motioning you over to this Kiosk where the software looks like it was designed with discarded code from Windows 98, and if you bought a few dozen items every day over a week or two, good fucking luck trying to find the exact item with SKU titles like "Ssad Cosa 32".

Their lumber has become a joke. It's a common joke big box store lumber IS a joke, fine for framing, but on more delicate work like furniture building, you might go through 20 1x6's to find one that isn't bowed to the point it literally could be a bow, and not cupped to the point it could be used as a gutter on your roof. Even their premium grade lumber is just as awful.

But one of the most irritating things about their stores is their rebate process. Now I'm not opposed to a mail in rebate, but they make theirs as convoluted as possible in hopes you won't mail it off and then they won't owe you shit. They just recently made it where you can do it online, their commercial says, only to find out you can FILL IT OUT ONLINE, but you still have to mail it in and wait a solid month for your rebate.

But that isn't the worst part, no. It's that their TV commercials falsely advertise that it's "saving you money". They don't even use the word rebate anymore in their TV spots, instead saying you "save 11% off". Well if it's not instantly discounted, you aren't saving shit, you are paying full price. If you saw a dealership advertising "10% off a new Toyota" and you go there to find out you have to pay full price, fill out a form, and then get a merchandise credit rebate that can only be used at the dealership, you'd be kinda ticket too, right?

I have no idea how they can legally advertise it this way. They would be much better off just having an actual 10% off sale, and do with rebates entirely, but they probably bank on half these schmucks never mailing them in.

So I've been around the block with this horrible company working at the stores and MM and GO and then went back to the stores. I was a GM for many years and I just can't stand this place anymore. After this past year and the payroll cuts John rammed down our throats to now them blaming the stores for not performing enough, I have to say screw this place.

So here are some insights for you folks:

Payroll is their most controllable expense. They can't change the cost of electricity but they can change how much they pay you by forcing you to work less. Less hours for you means more work for you and the rest of the staff because the jobs are just not getting done. So your sales slump, your store looks like crap and then GO comes and blames you for it. Menards is not hurting for $$$. John went from a new worth of 10 billion before covid to 25 billion after and he's not losing any of that. A mere fraction of a billion dollars would have been enough to keep payroll regular this year and not put so much pressure on the entire store staff being short. But John just can't understand that he needs to give up just a tiny bit of cash to help keep his people happy. He doesn't care about you or I or anyone, we are all just #'s to him that can easily be replaced.

Menards lies to all the TM's about most everything. They say they pay for 1/2 the health insurance but that isn't true. They don't pay a thing which is why the cost is so high. They take the total costs of the company heath plan for that given year and divide it by the # of TM's enrolled and that is what you pay. When care costs go up (like they do every year) they increase the amount taken from each of your paychecks. The healthcare has horrible coverage and deductibles and is a scam. Most other companies have a much better and much cheaper healthcare plan but once again. John doesn't care because it costs you more money and saves him $.

Profit sharing is not a bonus. They call it that to sucker you in. It's just part of your pay they withhold from you and then whey they do pay it the government taxes it at 40%. It's withheld so they can sit on it for the year earning interest. How much money do you think they make on that? It's also used as way to keep you in line like parents use Santa as a threat with little kids to get them to behave. "You will lose profit sharing if you are not profitable". GO controls the profits by setting the costs and retail prices!

There are lots of other things I could say but people wont read the post if it's to long so I will end it here with saying this. If you are a Menards TM either get out or form a union. If you are Menards shopper then stop. Take your business elsewhere as Menards doesn't deserve your hard earned money.

The gate keeper made an humiliated comments, "I have to count lumber pieces since I don't trust you!." The way he sounded like I'm stealing. Then the manager requested named Davena. She only listened to her subordinate and ignored my presence as if I'm not visible. She then counted with another helper. At the signing on pad before exiting, she stated that if I'm not happy then don't come back! This is a terrible custom

2 weeks ago - Built a house and found out that was why he was buying all the stuff a Menards when he rushed me up there to order cabinets. Realized that it was last day for the 11percent day for the period or whatever. Confronted him and he advised that is just another mechanism of revenue and talked about how he uses it to refurbish his own house. This is a real legit contractor.

I would not ask for compensation if I didn't have to replace all of the locks and handles with a higher quality brand. What I really want is for Menards to stop selling this awful unreliable product to unaware consumers as they are marketing it as a high quality product.
