Is Norton Password Manager safe?
Norton has a zero-knowledge policy, meaning your data is encrypted and decrypted locally on your device with your master password — so there’s no way for any of the information you store in Norton Password Manager to be accessed on Norton’s servers. In late 2022, attackers even tried logging in to some Norton accounts using passwords leaked from other sites. That said, Norton’s vault encryption wasn’t broken, and you can even turn on 2FA to stay better protected.
Norton also includes advanced two-factor authentication (2FA) tools that add an additional layer to password security. This includes compatibility with mobile authenticator apps, backup codes, and even physical security keys like USB tokens. These 2FA options align Norton Password Manager with its competitors, like 1Password. I was pleased to see Norton Password Manager adopting these advanced 2FA measures in its software.
Is Norton a safe password manager?
Norton is a trusted name in cybersecurity, but there have been a few hiccups during the years. Norton Password Manager experienced a breach where customers were warned to change their passwords due to an unauthorized party attempting to access data. Because we weren’t able to find a third-party audit, we can’t 100% say that Norton is safe.
We can, however, look to Norton’s reputation and say that it’s likely a safe product to use, especially if your only form of password management is Google’s unsafe password manager.
