New to overclocking, got asus prime z390 + 9700kf recently and followed this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bD1Ze80GpLo guide to a t and then got about 4k errors in less than 2 minutes before pc went into blue screen. Is there might be some problem on my part or this test is just garbage?

It's a great stress test that finds instability quickly.

OCCT is strict AF. Like tougher-than-Prime95 strict! If it's throwing errors, you're not quite up to it's super-high stability standard. If it's throwing blue-screens, you're WAY off.

Is stress testing safe?
Prime95 overnight testing is deemed by many to be the only way to test CPU's but when moving up ya OC's in steps, that can lead to a lot of long overnights and leaves a new machine owner waiting days... ... Games never push your GPU to the same degree OCCT would, but you could still encounter instability issues from time to time. Loads are very different between games - while it would run fine in 9/10 games, the tenth game it starts to crash constantly. More on reddit.com

if you crash you're not stable. period. I've had many seemingly good overclocks that passed hours in occt but failed in prime and applications I use. But I haven't seen an overclock that failed occt and passed my compute heavy daily usage (compiling code + various engineering simulations). What I'm aiming at is that OCCT is not that heavy and is only good as a first screening (at least 30 minutes) before you do longer tests in something more sensitive to lack of stability (like prime95 with FFTs in 800-2000 range overnight). Doing a 9800x3d OC at the moment. Trying with PBO MB limits, FMAX 200, CO -30, Scalar 10x. I'm wondering which stress test should I trust more for just a gaming and general browsing daily use?
I've set OCCT on multicore, extreme, steady load and notice that it's a test that uses far more power than Aida and maintains higher clocks. So far early 10 min runs have passed
However using AIDA FPU, CPU and Cache test CPU uses far less power yet the test fails almost immediately.
So I'm not really 100% on which one should I trust more.

Hello, I have a few questions about OCCT as a stability test. How reliable are these tests? I was testing my GPU overclock using the 3D Adaptive "extreme" test, testing various overclocks. I set +200 on core clock and +1500 on memory clock in MSI Afterburner. Other benchmarks and games were always stable but as soon as I ran the OCCT test it showed me a lot of errors. So I decreased core clock to +150 and left memory clock at +2000 and let it run for another half hour. This time I had no errors. Does this mean that my first overclock despite being stable in games was indeed NOT stable? And does that mean that my second overclock now should be in fact stable as there were no errors?

I’ve been overclocking my 5080. Using afterburner I passed OCCT, Furmark, 3DMark at +460 / + 2000. I played apex legends, cod and cyberpunk with no issue. I played Fortnite and that’s when the crashing started. I’m now down to 440/500 with 108 on power limit.

Your unstable . Add more volts untill it passes or bring it down a notch and be stable . If you got cheap cooling and a bad cpu that doesn't clock well and you don't like it so you fail stress tests and just say screw it it failed but I'm not taking it. Unstable In occt is a vary unstable oc. Adia 64 is a walk in the park for cpu . At the vary minamum Asus real bench 2.56 4 - 8 hrs Occt large data set avx2 4- 8 hrs. Prime 95 version 29.8 version 6 small ffts avx off 2 - 8 hrs. If you cant pass Asus real bench then you got a vary unstable oc. Increase volts try again . Bsod / whea error Increase vcore again re test. Ect ect

Yet, it is much better to find stability issues than small in practice for general purpose testing. Do not lessen a test to the power it draws or to the temperature the cpu reaches - a stability test will indeed reach higher temps than normal apps, but because a stability test reaches higher temps doesn't mean it is better. A good rule of thumb here is to use occt large with the highest avx instruction set your cpu/os supports.
