Is it true that reddit app is very invasive
As a general rule of thumb, if you're using a "free", add-funded service, then at best behind the scenes it is harvesting data for marketing companies so they can target you. That applies whether it's the app or the web, but I suspect apps often have access to more data on the device they're running on. More on reddit.com

Is Reddit a safe site to visit?
Generally, Reddit is safe, but like many large social platforms, it depends on how you use it. The site itself isn’t inherently dangerous, and it doesn’t install anything on your device just by visiting.  However, because Reddit is built around user-generated content, some posts, links, or communities may expose you to scams, misinformation, or inappropriate material. Overall, platform trust depends on how carefully you use Reddit and which communities you engage with.

February 5, 2025 - We’re here to help you keep your kid safe by allowing you to: Block Reddit entirely, if needed. Manage when your child can use Reddit throughout the day. Monitor posts, comments, replies, and direct messages on the app. Probably not, unless they’re at least 16 — and even then, the threat of stumbling upon porn and harmful content on the Reddit app is pretty high, so make sure you talk with your child about these risks.

r/privacy on Reddit: Are we safe on reddit?
September 6, 2024 -

I recently saw an Indian media story exposing a student who took undue advantage of a American University. He made a post on reddit explaining what he did and how he did it. In the post, I do not think he mentioned any personal information, yet they were able to link everything back to him. It could simply be the fact that someone read it that was involved. But what if that's not the case.

Most of the people on reddit are probably not like him. However it begs the question of whether we are safe to criticize on a public platform.

September 23, 2025 - As Reddit’s content is created and moderated almost entirely by its users, this allows communities of all kinds to spring up and flourish – but on the downside, it means you should be extra careful about what you believe. Children tend to be more trusting than adults and may take everything they read on Reddit at face value. That’s why it’s important for parents to teach kids how to spot fake news. Unfortunately, Reddit lacks controls that allow parents to safeguard and monitor their child’s activities on the platform.
