A good reference for what data could be safely uploaded into app.taguette.org is the U.S. Health and Human Services Institutional Review Board exemption decision chart -- if the data is exempt under this chart, it's most likely OK to upload to our hosted version of Taguette.

March 24, 2023 - For example, with these CAQDAS programs, it is possible to easily see all instances of a code, which is valuable during later stages of coding when iterating on codes and identifying themes, as mentioned earlier. But CAQDAS often comes with a price tag and a learning curve. I wanted to find something inexpensive—even free—for my students and something user-friendly for busy analysts who want to spend their time analyzing rather than learning the ropes of complex software. That search led me to Taguette, the free online tool that I had the students use to conduct their analyses—with success.

r/PhD on Reddit: Your take on Taguette Software for Qualitative Analysis ?

I've encountered the open source software Taguette. I'd like to hear how effective it is for qualitative data analysis. I understand Nvivo Is great, but how effective is Taguette for just coding based analysis methods. Not intending to do AI or visualisation support, just analysis of textual content.

Taguette has a major limitation for serious qualitative analysis: the complete lack of hierarchical coding. You literally cannot nest codes or organize them into categories, which makes methodologies like Thematic Analysis and Grounded Theory extremely difficult to execute properly. In Thematic Analysis, you need to organize codes into themes and subthemes. In Grounded Theory, you're constantly refining codes into higher-level theoretical concepts. Taguette just can't handle this - you're stuck with a flat list of codes that you have to organize mentally. That said, if you're doing a quick tagging project or basic coding exercise, its simple design and the fact that it's free is certainly a plus. But if you're planning to do any analysis that requires structured coding hierarchies, Taguette will actively work against your methodology. You'll hit this limitation immediately with most established qualitative approaches.

I'm conducting qualitative research now and I have to use tools for processing qualitative data. Can you recommend me an open tool for processing it? I have tried Atlasti and Nvivo but all of those are paid tools. Thank you!
