I'm trying to get some info on the Wholesale Club. Just went to their website....I can't find info on whether I need to be a member or not and do they only sell large quantities of food or do they also sell smaller quantities found in other grocery stores? Also are they part of the Loblaws/Superstore/No Frills company? What are their prices like?

It's not like a Costco if that's what your asking. It's more like a regular grocery store just with more option to purchase larger quantities of certain items. Cost savings are generally rewarded by purchasing multiples. Good place if you own/operate a restaurant. You're likely to find better prices for regularly sized products elsewhere.

I’ve been shopping there for 25 years and over the last year it has become like a Soviet grocery store in the 70s. Today I went in to buy large eggs, ground beef, raw cashews, cauliflower rice, whipping cream, spaghettini, and various vegetables. They were out of all of these things. The shelves are all about half full. What is going on there? Is this another way Galen Weston is trying to screw us over?

Is this another way Galen Weston is trying to screw us over? Probably yes. Back in Onterrible where Loblaws owned stores were seemingly 50% of the grocery market the amount of stock seemed to always be way higher at the more expensive banners than the discount ones. You could say it's supply and demand balancing things out but lets be real - they have this stuff figured out. When I worked at a Canadian Tire 20 years ago they knew how many of each BBQ they would sell each spring and it was pretty close. Loblaws can figure out how much pasta they need on the shelf.

One of the reps came by my restaurant to ask why we closed our business account with them. We explained the fact they haven’t had what we need in stock for months would be why, she tried to say it’s out of stock everywhere. And yet I can get it at save on foods or through Sysco.

Is there anything I need to know about going to Wholesale club? From what I've read, ordering online requires me to spend a minimum of $150. I'm hoping this is not the case for in-store purchases. Is it as simple as going into the store and getting whatever I need? There isn't a need for membership? Thanks.

From what I remember you don't need a membership. However, keep in mind it's cash, debit and mastercard only. No visa.

No membership needed and prices equal or better than Costco. Also carries no name and off brand stuff so you can find a great range of product. The only thing I wouldn’t buy there is produce or bread. Everything else is great!
