MSCI World is misleading - it refers to a benchmark index of developed markets and the fund you've linked has 1482 holdings FTSE all-world has more than double the holdings because it includes emerging markets in addition to developed. It costs marginally more. This fund is a better comparison and yes, it is 5 basis points cheaper (in theory) Answer from gorgeousredhead on reddit.com

Vanguard vs. iShares by BlackRock
October 1, 2024 - Since we use both Vanguard and iShares by BlackRock Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) extensively, one of my pleasures over the last few years has been seeing each company try to outdo the other by lowering costs. As they continue to lower costs, they gather more and more investments.

Differences Between SPDRs, Vanguard ETFs, and iShares ETFs
January 19, 2006 - The differences between SPDRs, Vanguard ETFs, and iShares are primarily based on the companies behind these ETFs and which indexes, asset classes, or sectors they cover. But if you are looking for exposure to the S&P 500, for example, which is offered by more than one ETF company, look at the more specific attributes of the fund. One of the main factors to consider is the fund's expense ratio, which is the annual fee ...

r/eupersonalfinance on Reddit: ELI5, please: Why should I choose Vanguard, even if iShares has less TER and more assets and shares?
February 9, 2024 -
I always see posts about people choosing Vanguard over iShares, but iShares tend sometimes to have less TER and more shares and participations.
Why is this, it is because they are more ethical? Because they repeat without thinking or because they simply choosed it in the past and now they are convinced are better than the other companies?
EDIT: For example, how it is possible that IE00B4L5Y983 (iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF USD (Acc)) has more "things" and lower ther than IE00BK5BQT80 (Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF (USD) Accumulating))?
Thank you anyway!

Vanguard are very popular in the US, iShares (Blackrock) are the biggest asset manager in the world, and have a bigger footprint in Europe. Both are trustworthy and safe options, you should not choose one over the other just because Reddit is mostly US centric. TER, TD (and TD trend), AUM (and AUM trend), usage of profits, replication method, and domicile are much more interesting considerations when choosing an ETF.

This includes Fidelity, where Vanguard ETFs can be held and traded without fees. Keep in mind that ETFs are transferrable between custodians via ACATS so we can all easily move our holdings if a brokerage starts trying to charge for Vanguard's ETFs. Same goes for Blackrock iShares ETFs which would probably be treated the same.

iShares Core Allocation ETFs vs. Vanguard’s LifeStrategy Funds — Oblivious Investor
As far as costs, the iShares Core Allocation ETFs have expense ratios of 0.15%. That’s ever so slightly higher than the 0.11-0.14% expense ratios for Vanguard’s LifeStrategy funds. In either case, you’re paying somewhat more than what you’d pay with a DIY portfolio of individual ETFs ...

Comparing two funds tracking similar indexes between iShares and Vangaurd (or SPDR) is not even like comparing Coke and Pepsi, it is like comparing Coke in the can vs Coke in a bottle. That said, if you want to transfer back to Vanguard PAS without selling shares, I would definitely stick with Vanguard. With ETFs there are no fees...

April 8, 2024 - For example, check the allocation iShare funds like AOR and AOA; they're sometimes cheaper when looking at Fidelity versus through the iShare website. With that knowledge, I thought it would make better sense to use those instead of Vanguard funds in hopes that they might drop the price for Fidelity purchases but in reality, I suffered from analysis paralysis and ultimately just made a choice.

May 21, 2015 - I’m planning on charging an AUM fee, and filling the client portfolios with ETFs. One thing I wonder–what’s the difference between Vanguard ETFs and the equivalent iShares ETFs? Without know the ETF I cannot say for sure, but IVV at 0.07% expense ratio versus VOO at 0.05% means to me the difference is so close it doesn't matter much. If you're staying at Fidelity buy the iShares as it will take many years to break even on the $8 commission.

Fund Battle: Vanguard global ETF versus BlackRock global ETF
The Vanguard fund has a lower price-to-earnings ratio, at 17.4 times, compared with 18.3 for iShares. This is due to the lower weighting to the highly rated US market. Fees are comparable, with iShares costing 0.2% and Vanguard costing 0.22%. Both ETFs are very liquid, meaning that the bid-offer ...
