MSCI World is misleading - it refers to a benchmark index of developed markets and the fund you've linked has 1482 holdings FTSE all-world has more than double the holdings because it includes emerging markets in addition to developed. It costs marginally more. This fund is a better comparison and yes, it is 5 basis points cheaper (in theory) Answer from gorgeousredhead on reddit.com

r/eupersonalfinance on Reddit: ELI5, please: Why should I choose Vanguard, even if iShares has less TER and more assets and shares?
February 9, 2024 -

I always see posts about people choosing Vanguard over iShares, but iShares tend sometimes to have less TER and more shares and participations.

Why is this, it is because they are more ethical? Because they repeat without thinking or because they simply choosed it in the past and now they are convinced are better than the other companies?

EDIT: For example, how it is possible that IE00B4L5Y983 (iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF USD (Acc)) has more "things" and lower ther than IE00BK5BQT80 (Vanguard FTSE All-World UCITS ETF (USD) Accumulating))?

Thank you anyway!

iShares vs Vanguard | Credit Carrots
January 15, 2023 - Vanguard has close to 100 ETF’s versus the 350+ that iShares has. For the everyday investor, the funds that Vanguard offers are more than enough, and probably less confusing than the massive amount of options that iShares has.

r/ETFs on Reddit: iShares VS Vanguard SP500
October 16, 2023 -

European investor here. Buying Eur. acc SP500 index ETF. Options end up being either iShares(SXR8) or Vanguard(VUAA) The 2 main differences I can notíce are:

  1. the overall asset value. The iShares(SXR8) is already 61B and the Vanguard (VUAA) is "only" 7,28B.

  2. If buying by volume and not fractional, naturally the SXR8 individual volume is way way costlier.

Besides that I can't find any significant difference between them. Which begs the question:

  • should I only choose 1 of them or both ?

May 22, 2024 - The Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A 0.55%) (BRK.B 0.52%) portfolios under his wing contain exactly two ETFs, and the Vanguard fund is one of them. That's a reassuring stamp of approval from one of the greatest investing minds in history. When considering S&P 500 ETFs, the SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY +0.19%) and iShares Core S&P 500 ETF (IVV +0.20%) are reasonable alternatives to the Vanguard ETF (let's call them "the SPDR ETF" and "the iShares ETF," respectively).
