Do you guys over there have rather cold or warm winters? Since Israel is close to the equator I imagine that they are rather hot but how is it for people that live in cold areas and have visited the country during winter?

Tel Aviv and the coastal region has warm dry summers. (24~ nights -30~ days) from June to September. Winters are mild and rainy, getting to below 10 degrees at nights, and highs below 20, with lots of thunderstorms and the occasional hailstorm. Jerusalem and the mountains+ north have similar conditions in summer, though nights there are cooler, but they get much colder winters, with temperatures getting to a around and under 0 sometimes, and the occasional snowstorm, with lots of rains. Jerusalem in December to March is quite similar to the weather in London during that time.

I'm sorry if it's a dumb question to ask, but like I'm planning to come to Israel in winter (January specifically) and I have no idea how cold is it in there in this time of the year.
I am from Russia, but probably one of the hottest cities in the country (Sochi) and I'm just wondering, would I need those huge amount of clothes and other stuff?
I was in Israel in November and it was quite warm there, could walk around with the t-shirt only. Or is it that big of a difference between November and January in Israel?

if it's the biggest storm there is, so probably around 5-6° in tel aviv area, maybe -1/-2 in Jerusalem. But this is really the most extreme cenario, that doesn't happen every summer. Average I'd say 15° during the day in central israel, more or less.

As others are saying, it doesn't generally get very cold (Jerusalem aside, and then mostly at night). However, buildings here are not built to hold in heat - that being a good thing in scorching summers - so plan on wearing layers indoors.
