Watch YouTube videos about the exams. Professor Messer is a good place to go. Get a homelab started. There's plenty of things you can do to get started. Get yourself familiar with keywords. I have no experience working in IT but I desperately want to get in. I took some computer classes in college but that’s it. I’m wondering if I have any chance of getting into the IT field without experience even in a low level position. Any advice to improve my chances would be greatly appreciated.

I'd start with the wiki. Next find kevtech on YouTube and use his labs/resume. From there study and get comptia a+. If possible your gonna want to get a degree for sure in this market. This will hopefully get you your first job. Remember soft skills are a big part of L1 helpdesk. Best of luck!

36 here. Absolutely NO prior experience. Coming from firefighting. Start with basics A+ or net+ (not really considered basic, but will help a lot), and start applying for help desk positions. BE HONEST if you get interviews. I was hired for help desk, hybrid schedule at 22/hr. I told them straight up in my interview that I was career changing and was very green to the industry. They still asked me some questions and I answered to the best of my ability. Don’t be that guy who tries to google while they are asking. Got called back and said they liked my personality, the way I spoke, and how honest I was. I am about to be a week in and have learned so much. It can be done brother 100%, especially for us “late comers”, they will teach you what you need to know. More on reddit.com
