these are examples of tone indicators!! they define the tone of the post/comment, so as to avoid miscommunication. you can’t hear someone’s tone of voice through words alone, and people often use emoticons for different reasons (i have recently learnt that Gen Alpha use the 💀/☠️ faces to mean the same as a laughing face… i fear the new generations 😅 /lh) some examples are /s for sarcasm, /j for joking, /gen for genuine and /lh for light humour hope this helps! /gen 😉 EDIT: it just came to me that there’s, like… a whole bunch of tone indicators out there… when i was a mod for a social media page, in my teens (don’t judge, the internet was/is a weird place and it was a tiny page with only about 40K followers at it’s height), we had a list of maybe 40(?) different tone indicators, and it was mandatory to use them on every post… can’t lie, i never used them, because i just sorta… fact-dumped 🤣 and there wasn’t a /fax TI on there (or maybe there was! did i check every single TI? no… ain’t nobody got time for that 🤣). i hear they’re really useful in the online autistic community though, as some of my friends have pointed out to me 😊 EDIT2: heheh i have found a list similar to the one that i have referenced above, albeit not as extensive/repetitive/exhausting… but idfk how to post images on here 🤣 just google “tone indicators list” and you’ll see a whole bunch come up, even on google images 🫡
