Edit: Just upgrade to Spring Boot 2.5.1 where this is resolved.

Old answer below:

I managed to fix this for now by adding exclusions to my spring-boot-starter-security dependency which apparently defined this Kotlin dependency.

<dependency>
    <groupId>org.springframework.boot</groupId>
    <artifactId>spring-boot-starter-security</artifactId>
    <exclusions>
        <exclusion>
            <groupId>org.jetbrains.kotlin</groupId>
            <artifactId>kotlin-stdlib-jdk8</artifactId>
        </exclusion>
        <exclusion>
            <groupId>org.jetbrains.kotlin</groupId>
            <artifactId>kotlin-stdlib</artifactId>
        </exclusion>
        <exclusion>
            <groupId>org.jetbrains.kotlin</groupId>
            <artifactId>kotlin-reflect</artifactId>
        </exclusion>
    </exclusions>
</dependency>

JsonParser does not auto-register Jackson 3 Kotlin module on Spring Boot 4, causing Kotlin tool-calling deserialization failures · Issue #5424 · spring-projects/spring-ai
February 7, 2026 - Bug description org.springframework.ai.util.json.JsonParser in Spring AI 2.0.0-M2 appears incompatible with Spring Boot 4 + Jackson 3 module coordinates/packages. JsonParser builds its own static ObjectMapper and registers modules via JacksonUtils.instantiateAvailableModules(). JacksonUtils currently tries to load legacy Jackson 2 FQCNs (for example com.fasterxml.jackson.module.kotlin.KotlinModule), while in Boot 4 / Jackson 3 environments the Kotlin module is typically tools.jackson.module.kotlin.KotlinModule.
