Board but no Batten?
Hardie panel for board and batten look? - DoItYourself.com Community Forums

Need to side my 12x16’ studio I’ve built myself. Applying on top of zip panels. Want a board and batten style.
I can’t find smooth LP panels, only textured. Though I’m told they’re available by some.
One place tells me they sell TruWood panels that are smooth, but I can’t find anything on TruWood’s website that says they offer it.
Then there’s Hardie Panels. I love the look but the increased cost, difficulty in pickup and installation (I,e., cant do it myself), and the dust makes me hesitant.
Can anyone help point me in the right direction? I have an 8’ rear wall and a lean to roof leading to a 10’ front wall if that’s important.
I had some board and batten siding installed on a project and I want to make sure I am getting what I paid for, as I went for a well known high priced siding company. The job looks a little shoddy to me but I don’t know the tolerances generally allowable on this job.
There’s at least 3/4” gaps in the trim over the drip cap on the window. The housewrap is showing through. What are the recommended installation gaps to leave in this area? This is my main issue.
There’s a half inch uneven reveal above the windows where they have the upper piece of hardie above the windows
Hardie reveal over door is not level or even. Gap is about 1/8” over middle and increases to 1/4” or more on right.
Metal filings not cleaned up - although not a big issue.
Large gap over the outlet cover. It’s around 3/8” or so.
Thanks for your knowledge.
Am looking into James Hardie siding designs, one of which is the batten and board. If I just wanted a smooth exterior on my house, would it be crazy to use just Hardie board panels with no batten?
I haven't been able to find any images of such on Google, but Hardie has an architectural series (which I can't find for sale anywhere) that might look somewhat similar to what I'm imagining: https://www.jameshardie.com/JamesHardieNorthAmerica/media/Products/Hardie-Textured-Panel/NEO-4A-Pacific-NW-v2-ALT-VIEW-FINAL-min.jpg?ext=.jpg
Would this be at all feasible? I believe the battens are purely cosmetic or am I missing something? The Hardie boards from Lowe's are 48x120in panels such as this: https://www.lowes.com/pd/James-Hardie-48-in-x-120-in-HZ10-HardiePanel-Statement-Collection-Light-Mist-Smooth-Fiber-Cement-Panel-Siding/5013236211.
