Where can I buy Japanese bedding?
i'm not sure what's considered "reasonable", but right-on futon at lincoln and wellington sells high quality futons and futon mattresses that you wouldn't be embarrassed to have in your apartment as an adult. they sell stuff at a range of prices but they're all definitely more than i expected to pay when my wife suggested we get a futon for our second bedroom.

Does anyone know where I can buy tatami mats and/or futon mattresses in Chicago at a reasonable price? Thanks in advance for any help.

J Toguri's used to have tatami but I haven't been there in awhile, so call first.
I'm interested in purchasing a japanese style futon, i.e. a soft trifold mattress that I can put away in a closet during the daytime, but uninterested in falling prey to the kinds of sites that target uninformed japanophiles. Have you any suggestions?
EDIT: Wow, completely forgot to mention I'm in the USA, how Americentric of me.
Hi, BIFL-ers. Need some advice. Would you buy a Japanese futon (the ones where you lay a tatami mat, then put the futon padding on top) or get a mattress? Which would you get and why? What brand would you recommend? I'm conflicted because I've grown up sleeping only on mattresses and have never tried a Japanese futon, but I know I will be moving places a lot and Japanese futons just offer a lot of portability. I would also want to buy for life because looking at the typical materials for bedding just aren't great for the planet at the end of its life cycle. Thanks!
