It should be as simple as downloading the version you need from here https://www.java.com/en/download/ (You'll probably want the 64-bit executable) and then running that .exe. On the off chance that doesn't work, you can specifically download the Java 17 SDK from the archive here, but that shouldn't be required. All you should need to run Minecraft is the Java Runtime Environment. https://www.oracle.com/java/technologies/javase/jdk17-archive-downloads.html

I am genuinely so fed up with ts. I've tried lots of things to fix this but oh god it just won't stop using Java 17 WHEN I DON'T EVEN HAVE IT INSTALLED
I've tried running "java --version" on cmd and yes, it says im running the newest version, but damn it I guess I'm stupid and also ugly because it STILL USES JAVA 17

Your launcher has set up its own Java install. Tell it to not do that.

Minecraft comes bundled with java nowadays so that's probably why it's using Java 17 by default. you have to find the setting in your launcher to change it.
