I am trying to download java 64 bit but whenever I download it still says 32 bit is installed and there is only one version of Java downloaded. how do I fix this?
You can Download and install the 64 bit and 32 bit versions from here (it's the ones called "offline"): https://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp . Also, check start > run > appwiz.cpl to see the list of installed programs, you should see two Java's there, but I think only one will show up in control panel to be configured, I'd have to check. December 30, 2019Should I install Java 64-bit or Java 32-bit? My computer has 4gb RAM.
Unless you have need for 32bit there js no advantage to it, if anything 64bit will be ever so slighly fast, but probsbly not noticable.
TL DR Always go 64

June 29, 2015Running minecraft with 64 bit java.
Chances are you're still on the 32 bit version. Unfortunately, the only browser that is specifically built for 64-bit computers (and, consequentially, the only one that downloads 64 bit java by default from the JRE site) is Internet Explorer 64-bit. If you go to the site with a 32-bit browser it'll download the 32 bit java by default.
You can also go here and download the 64 bit version directly: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre-7u3-download-1501631.html
Be warned though, the 64-bit java is incompatible with 32-bit browsers. It doesn't really bother me considering I very rarely use java within the browser, but it might bother some.
All of that said, installing 64-bit java solved many of my problems with Minecraft, so here's hoping it'll solve yours.
