Can't download Java 8 without an Oracle account?

You need to download an OpenJDK version of Java.. You only need "at least" v8.2 so get OpenJDK v11 which will be supported long term.. OpenJDK 11 - http://jdk.java.net/11/ - this version does not include JavaFX but if you're doing MOOC then it doesn't matter. Just unzip into your Java folder. This is not an installer so make sure you set the lib and bin folder locations in your system path. If you don't know what that means let me know and I'll post further instructions (this is for PC). The best way to do this is to use the builds from adoptopenjdk. They're very high quality and come in multiple variants for Windows ranging from zip files to MSI installers. Dead simple to install JDK 8, 11 or 15.

But, after the installation when I tried checking the version using command java -version it's showing like regular JDK.

This is because JAVA_HOME is pointing to your old JDK. You need to go to Control Panel and change the Environment Variables. Just do a search on Windows 10 for "Environment Variables" to easily find that configuration panel.
