Is there a program ANY WHERE that will replace Java? I have nothing but problems with it ... I thot it was an Oracle problem but did Microsoft purchase it. My problem is that I'm OLD and cannot concentrate on a billion instructions, especially not as confusing as the instructions for Java AND it would help if the java updates would work ... everything on my computer works flawlessly, except Java. I'll pay someone to get it out of my computer and install a program that WORKS ... plus Java is full of bugs ... and the updates don;t work so it is destroying my security. Sorry that didn't work for you. Have you tried to find Java manually by searching in Explorer for "Java" at the "C:\ " level, e.g., open Explorer, click on your C:\ drive and entering "Java" in the search dialog box? It seems that you must have loaded it in a different folder than Program Files (x86)\Java. Hope you have better luck taking this approach.
I downloaded and installed Java to help a friend test a program (a version of the Shimeji desktop companion) they were working on.
As expected, the program did not launch before installing Java. After I installed Java, it worked perfectly. This should demonstrate I did install Java and it is currently in the machine.
After completing the test I wish to remove Java as I am not using it. However, I cannot locate it anywhere. The install wizard, which can be run to uninstall Java, says "no Java installation is detected on this system" when propted to remove Java. I cannot locate any Java folder in C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files(x86). I cannot locate the Java Control Panel anywhere. For all intents and purposes, it seems like Java is not installed, except that it is because I can still run the program my friend is making. I am running Windows 11 Home.

Alternate method of launching Java Control Panel:
Click Windows Start button.
In the Start Search box, type:

If you really don't have shortcut to "Configure Java" in the menu start, then run directly this Java Panel by accessing C:\Program Files\Java\jreJAVA_VERSION\bin\javacpl.exe or C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jreJAVA_VERSION\bin\javacpl.exe
If you only have jdk installed, then C:\Program Files\Java\jdkJAVA_VERSION\jre\bin\javacpl.exe

Need to open a jar file. Jar file has a blank page icon. Double click to open, asks which program I'd like to run it with, defaults on java with a window icon. Nothing happens.

Figure updating java is the issue, so I download latest version installer, "jre-8u461-windows-x64.exe", I run it, asks for admin rights, I click yes, nothing happens.

Came here, use the search to look within techsupport, best I could find was this, but his results were a bit different (a window pops up for a second after trying to launch a jar file) and I don't like jamming things into terminal without knowing what they are.

Sorry for withholding that this issue is related to minecraft. People tend to see minecraft and immediately go to "Oh, so this is a child." I am a 38 year old man, and this problem is well outside of a minecraft problem. This is potentially a huge security risk and my only current course of action is at the very least a soft reformat. I'd like to avoid that if at all possible.
For the record, there never was a "Java Control Center".
Java Flight Recorder (JFR) and Java Mission Control (JMC) are included in both Oracle Java 11 and OpenJDK Java 11
The Java Control Panel which was part of the deployment tool chain that was dropped in Java 11; see the release notes. It is not available for either Oracle Java 11 or OpenJDK Java 11.
So:
Question: How do we get back the Control Center in Java 11 and or future versions using the licensed version of Java?
Assuming you are talking about the Java Control Panel, the answer is (AFAIK) you can't, and this won't change in future releases ... unless Oracle (or someone else) comes up with a replacement for the deployment tool chain.
Why: With the Control Center we can set easily some security parameters.
It appears that many of the security parameters that were configured using the Java Control Panel control the security of the Java browser plugin and Java Webstart. JWS and the browser plugin no longer exist in Java 11.
You were interested in configuring Control Panel > Security > Exception Site List. Allowed the user to mark certain sites as "safe" as a source for "Rich Internet Applications" (RIAs). Since RIAs relied on either JWS or the Java browser plugin, this configuration property is moot.
(Or at least ... that is what I have deduced from reading the Java 8 deployment docs.)

The Java Plugin and Java WebStart technologies that were deprecated in JDK 9 and marked as candidates for removal in JDK 10, have now been removed. Please note that the Java Control Panel, which was used for configuring the deployment technologies, has also been removed along with the shared system JRE (but not the server JRE) and the JRE Auto Update mechanism. - Right-click the Start button and choose "Control Panel".
- In the "Search Control Panel" box, type "Java".
- It should bring up a match entitled "Java (XX-bit)" (where XX is the bit-level of the Java install)
- Double-click that icon to open the Java Control Panel.
To locate the Java Control panel, simply type Configure Java in the search bar on the side.

When I go to the control panel, I click programs and when I click Java, it says application not found. Please help. the reason I wanted it was because I needed to update my java version and when I go to the command prompt and run java --version , it shows the un-changed version from before I downloaded it from the Oracle website. I don't really know anything about this stuff and it really confuses me. I could open it before this happened too, and I did the JAVA_HOME thing but it didn't seem to do anything. When I went to open the panel again, it gave me the error.
