You can Download and install the 64 bit and 32 bit versions from here (it's the ones called "offline"): https://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp . Also, check start > run > appwiz.cpl to see the list of installed programs, you should see two Java's there, but I think only one will show up in control panel to be configured, I'd have to check.

That just means the control panel applet itself is 32-bit. That's normal and you do have 64-bit Java installed. The Flash Player control panel applet is also 32-bit.

DON'T: So I downloaded Java from link on RotP website: Download Java for Windows but it automatically installed 32bit version and I had terrible performance issues without realising I have 32bit version
Turned out I needed to download 64bit Java here Java Downloads for All Operating Systems where I can manually select which version of Java I want to install - 64bit version. I uninstalled the 32bit version and installed 64bit instead - Game runs much better.

Interesting. When I click on that same link, it takes me to the 64-bit version. However, I modified ROTP a few versions back to warn you at startup if you are using a 32-bit Java. Did that not display for you? And with v0.93, a Java installation will no longer be required for Windows users.

It's likely due to something with your operating system or internet browser. The regular Java download link has some auto-detect features to predict what version is needed (so it's not just "Download Java for Windows"). Perhaps you are using a 32-bit browser (which needs and therefore defaults to 32-bit Java).
